Maybe, but I haven't met many Mancunians who are prepared to admit to being United fans. Don't forget that Manchester City were able to get crowds of nearly 30,000 when they were in Division 2. They're a very well supported club in the Manchester area.
I didn't protest they were a well supported club in the area. I protested they were the most supported club. And last time United were in a lower division they had the higher attendance than anybody, including the top division.
To say that United lacks fans in Manchester is a complete misrepresentation of the facts. City does take alot of blue collars under their belt but Man U dominates Manchester to a greater extent than Chelsea or Arsenal dominates London. That is because Man U dominates London. Which was my actual point. ManU's fan base is so riduculously wide spread it is difficult for the other teams to compete if it is just on a profit only spending program. And saying that you think the yankees deserve to be able to spend more because they have more fans may be true. This is because they are in the Largest city in America and have the deepest tradition and are thought of, like ManU of the Premiership, as the epitome of MLB. This is bad for competition. The Braves are kind of like the Arsenal of Baseball and Chelsea are the Marlins. I get tired of seeing the same damn teams win every year. I will be glad to see a third hat thrown in the ring, and if Liverpool and Newcastle manage to get in there too I will be ever more glad to see that. After reading Keane's latest claim that he thinks this ManU squad is the strongest since he has been there, I started pondering the squad and I can kind of see it. Especially if Keane stays somewhat healthy. Djemba Djemba is going to be a really great pick up for them and Howard may be the piece that will make them extremely dominant.
Err, no. Or at least not the London that I know. In fact, no one club "dominates" London, because last season they had 6 clubs playing in the Premier division (Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Fulham, West Ham and Charlton). My main point is that, in my opinion, a person actually from Manchester is at least 50% likely to be a City fan. Manchester United's fan base is in Ireland, the southern England, and abroad.
Alright Bailey, whatever you say, I can see this is going to be one of those lame arguments where people start pulling random statistics out of their ass like "at least 50%". The point is Man U dominates England and quite frankly the world, that is what I was talking about but you seem to want to get into a conversation about where ManU's fan base is. My point is that's its fanbase is everywhere and it is way too strong for a Chelsea to compete with them unless you get someone like Roman in there to pay the tab. That is true, Man U does not entirely dominate London, my point was they obviously have a much bigger fan base in London than Chelsea do in Manchester or anywhere else for that matter. Man U has a bigger fan base in London than Chelsea, and likely Arsenal, does. That is what I am talking about. From my personal experience growing up in London, I found more people at pubs going ape over ManU games than I ever did a any of the London team's games. I never took any polls though.
