NBA : D-League European Club football : MLS The quality of soccer is so ****ty in the MLS it's not surprising to see a lack of appreciation for the sport in America. I started out watching the EPL as a child so I enjoy good soccer which includes great build-ups, sharp passes and quick dribbling. MLS teams defend pretty well but alot of the flair/natural feel required in soccer is missing.
Dude, if every soccer star from every good soccer league played in MLS, Americans still wouldn't care. You could clone Pele from his prime 11 times and American interest in soccer might raise marginally.
Consider the younger generations who are in their teens right now. If they grow up watching quality baseball vs quality soccer, which sport becomes more popular? And with quality soccer comes more hype and marketing with actual meaning, which dominates the American sports industry. Americans will like what they are told to like. Baseball might have the advantage with it's tradition but you can argue soccer is an easier sport to get into for the new fan.
Also superstars drive sports in America, so if we could generate a couple more Freddy Adu's who are successful in international play... that could compensate for the lack of overall talent in the MLS.
Just a random thought. What if Reggie Bush and Vince Young grew up playing soccer instead of football?
If you don't like soccer, you don't like sports. It's the purest ball game. Baseball scores are only twice those of soccer, in double the time, with a lot less athleticism--and I think baseball is the best sport of all.
i dont like sports?? man...i had no idea. better start watching those soccer players flop and act hurt from now on...so, so pure.
Now hockey, there's an underrated sport. It's like soccer. Except it's faster, there's more scoring, it's on ice, they use sticks instead of their feet, and they're allowed to hit each other.
YEAH. there's nothing better than this <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sDMK71kLdO8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sDMK71kLdO8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Seen an NBA game lately? Yep. My evaluation is that you put sports on the same level as serial rapists.
They might end up making a hell of a lot more money at the end of their careers. NFL is one of the worst paying pro-leagues (it's all relative) while soccer players get paid as much as any other sport (and there's multiple leagues that are willing to pay.
I never got the "low scoring" complaint about soccer. Should they just do what American football does and just say each goal is worth 6 points? Then we'd have a high scoring game!
