This thread does at least raise the question of what should be the American responsibility to the Iraqi people for this elective, unnecessary war. This was a war that the Iraqi people, the Arab world and the rest of the world did not ask for. A formal policy to the Iraqi people and to the world would be a good first step. It should not involve the sacrifice of more American working class lives to atone for the sins of the neocons. After all these soldiers and their families were victims of the lies, too. We should honor the will of the majority of the Iraqi people and leave as soon as they want us to, which appears to be right now or shortly. It should involve impeachment and criminal charges against those who lied the Iraqi people into this mess. As much as possible these folks should be divested of their ill gotten war profits. The US, Britain and to a lesser extent the relatively few other members of the coalition should not be allowed to prosper from oil contracts with Iraq, Kurdistan or whatever entities are created from the ruins of Iraq. It should involve the payment of hundreds of billions in war reparations to help Iraq rebuild and to support and resettle the millions of refugees our war has created.
