haven: was his defense really that stifling to ignore his offensive aversion?

Why the hell would San Antonio lose on purpose?! First of all, they are the #1 seed in the West. The race is so close that 1 loss can cost you home court advantage. We all know how important that is. Peterson is a freakin moron(and scrub) to think that they are worried about the first round.

BTW, how about Cato's defense! Duncan had 25 points, but on 28 shots! I was on the floor at the game(Section 114, EE) and he worked his tush off!

Maybe the Spurs had something to do with JFKs shooting

Jim Petersen has a point, who would you rather face, a Timberwolves team that gets worse and worse every year, and is a one man show, or the Rockets, who's backcourt combined to explode for 50+ points on you, had a PF who scored about 20 points on you, and had a big man who could guard you big man and have youth and a bench? Then again, the Wolves DO have Peeler and Garrett, and that has to scare the Spurs huh? Jackass!

The Rockets just proved they are no pushover for the Purrs last night. They were down by 20 and came back and beat the first place team in the West.

I think the point has already been made, but Petersen probably said that simply because the Rockets had lost to the Spurs 11 straight times. If the Rocks were the #1 seed, they'd want to play a team they'd beaten down as well.

Of course, it seems like that theory is blown out of the water quite often. See Sonics-Nuggets series in the early 1990s, hehe.

I guess such a statement would make more sense if this was the last game of the season...but like Franchise2001 said - any loss by San Antonio could bump it on down the standings with everything so cozy at the top in the Western Conference.

LEt's stick to conspiracy theories at least somewhere in the bounds of reality. For example, does anyone know how a dork like Jim Petersen gets on the radio? I bet there's something fishy behind that!

uhm... guys, not to piss on anyone's parade here... but, petersen's right on the money (conspiracy theory aside).

the spurs were playing the "to-back" of a back-to-back, on the road, with the t-blaze on tap monday night. it was a great win, but let's keep it, and the rocks in general, in perspective, here.

houston's the only team among the top 11 in the west w/o a winning record in its own conference, and i saw this a.m. that they're now 2-14 against the current top 5 seeds.

SA'd be crazy not to want to play houston in round 1.

    um, Ric@HPF

    let's keep seeds 1, 7, 8, & 9 in perspective here.

the implication peterson was making (and i heard the broadcast) was that the spurs may have lost on purpose so that the rockets could creep a little closer to the 8 spot - thus giving the spurs a chance to play houston.

the problem with that statement is logic. not only does the spurs losing put them behind Utah, thus moving them from the #1 seed, it also moves the rockets closer to the #7 seed. guess who'd be #8 if everything moved down a notch? PHOENIX.

ask anyone in san antonio who they don't want to play and i'll bet dollars to donuts that 85% will say PHOENIX.

so this cheapshot was not ony disrespectful, it was not very well thought out. if you're wondering why we're po'd it's because it's just a way to insult the rockets just for insult's sake.

his comment, as quoted by clutch, concerned only minnesota and houston, and which of those two teams the spurs would rather face, assuming the current seedings hold up and houston/minnesota battle for the 8th seed.

that could possibly be construed as a putdown, except... it's dead-on accurate. it being a conspirarcy was quite obviously a joke, and thus, doesn't stand up to actual analysis (i.e. if SA really was tanking, then they'd move down, houston would move up, blah, blah, blah).

do you honestly think there was even a shred of sincerity in his comment about SA tanking? that's silly, imo.

verse: Anderson isn't as bad as you think on offense. It's more that it simply isn't necessary for him to score. He "fits in." EVERY team needs that kind of player if it wants to win... if you try to field a "prototypical" team you end up winding with a roster that supposedly would score like 150 points.

Anderson can put points on the board when necessary and will guard whoever you put on him. he does his job and contributes to winning.

Remember last year when Bruce Bowen was waived? Guess who were the two coaches scrambling to sign him? Pat Riley and Larry Brown... probably the best two coaches in the league. And Anderson has quite a bit more offense than Bowen.

I thought it was Riley and Van Gundy, and the day Bowen was waived was the only day of the year that Miami happened to be lower in the standings than New York and Miami ended up claiming Bowens off waivers before New York could.

    thats the point.
it was an unnecessary cheap shot.
of course SA would rather play Houston, but no need to take an unwarranted (if we dont make the playoffs, Houston will have one of the top 3 highest winning percentages ever to not make the playoffs, and the two presently above them were only because they played during a time when only 4 teams went from each conference, so poor record against the west or not, it is unwarranted)shot at the Roxs.
