    Jeff you are wrong!

RR's IP numbers are assigned each session one logs on. It is not a set like that of ISDN or DSL.

Rockets' biggest problem is not player talent levels, it is the coach's ineptitude.

I think Caveman maybe right (not his signature).

I have RR service at home. Couple of days ago, I had problems installing RR (which runs fine on my Win95 machine) on my machine that has Win2000 Pro. Being the network genius that I am (NOT!), I called the help desk. They told me that I really didn't need to run the installation disk and that all I need to ensure in my TCP/IP settings is that I have selected the Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server.

It does seem too coincident to have 2 person in the same thread (one after another), coming from the same IP though, but not impossible. I guess it could be his friend/neighbor propping him up. [IMG]

DHCP doesn't necessarily mean you get a different IP address every time. It just means a server (a DHCP server) assigns a particular IP address for a particular length of time to a client machine. This "lease" time as it's called can go anywhere from a minute to about 99 years (from what I remember). DSL providers do this, I'm sure cable modem providers do it, too. What I thought was an incredible coincidence was that the exact same host responded within a short period of time. It's not impossible, but it's weird. The other thing is that you can't necessarily tell an IP or machine just from looking at the host domain (like in that thread). I have one static IP address for my router, but I have 3 machines behind it. Each of these machines are assigned an IP address using DHCP. No matter which machine I post from, you'll probably see the same IP address.

    Anyway...

(man, is Summer Sanders a cutie or WHAT? *drool*)

OK, I don't profess to be a network specialist, but the fact remains that these three posts definitely came from the same person.

I mean, do you honestly believe that two or three separate people all who just happened to be assigned the exact same IP address within hours of one another managed to each reboot their computers in succession so they were re-assigned this exact IP and then log on to MSNBC to post about the Comets and this particular site? If you want to give me odds, I'd be happy to take that bet.

Caveman, Moonbus -- I'm afraid not. Dr of Dunk is exactly correct. RoadRunner uses DHCP to dynamically assign IP addresses, but the nature of DCHP is to attempt to keep the same computers on the same IP address. That's why you don't get a new one everytime you reboot.

I would know. I've done work for them, I provide Clutch City content/highlights for them and use them as my ISP myself. I've had the same IP for over a year.

Only one person on the planet has that IP address (cs27120-133.houston.rr.com) ... and he is cringing at the moment that his lame acts are so evident.

Translation: These all came from the exact same computer

PS. Jeff's post is also dead on... I'll post more on this soon enough.

As a longtime visitor, I also noticed that the relationship between Frank und Clutch has changed.

I remember the good old times when Clutch used to talk to Frank and thank him for his server space (dmi-media?). In fact, even when he moved the site, there was talk of clutchcity.net and .com teaming up to bring us the best Rockets coverage. It is needless to say that Clutch achieved that goal without Frank´s help, but I still wonder what had caused the rift between the two former "partners".

Clutch, don´t get me wrong, but do you think you will actually tell us the whole story at some time? Just out of curiousity...if you don´t want to, I could really understand it because it probably touches your personal affairs with Frank, but I´d still like to know [IMG]

Jovi, at some point we'll play all of our hole cards, but only if you make a solemn promise to us:

Do not ever refer to Clutch and Frank as "partners", former or otherwise, again.

Here is an inelegant but totally accurate analogy for you:

If I borrow your car for a date and score that night, "we" didn't get lucky. You provided the car. I'm the one who did the, ahem, work-- from asking the girl out to buying her dinner to not making an ass of myself, etc etc.

You'd look pretty dumb going around the next day talking about how "we" scored with All-the-Way Mae.

Well, likewise, claiming you're a former "partner" because you let someone store a website on your server for a year or so is pretty stupid.

    BK, I get your point.

However, if you are for example business partners, that doesn´t necessarily mean that you are friends.

With Frank being a longtime CC crew member, I thought it woule be adequte to denote him as you "former" partner. Perhaps I should had added "hated", but it´s ok, I won´t do it again.

Looking forward to hear the whole story. How ´bout writing a book entitled "The Intrigue"?

To quote a great American, Charlie Brown:

    "AAUUUUUUUUUUGH!"

Frank and Clutch were not partners. And Frank was not on the Crew. Ever.

To answer your question, I'd say the ETA is moving up rapidly.

    Jovi --

Frank's name was listed in the Crew section as a thank you for hosting the site for us ... but it was an exchange: He got free links to his one-man hosting business Digital Media in his market (Houston) as a "sponsored by" link. That was the exchange.

Frank Swindle never had anything to do with this site. Not ever.

However, as web site host, he would later claim the domain name... and is currently trying to continue a site at that name as a .con hoping to deceive anyone who doesn't know we moved to clutchcity.net.

It's no longer a concern, which is one of the many reasons we're now able to talk about it. Our greatest accomplishment was getting out from underneath that scam.

You'll get the full explanation soon enough. Sit tight.

    Clutch,

I don't know if that was a typo or intentional, either way that is a CLASSIC!

    And the plot thickens!
A-Ha! So that's what all this is!

I was pretty sure there was something going on... I do remember back in the day when you used to have all the OLD wallpapers.. and I forget who made them..but I think they had something to do with DMI-media.. (of course I could be wrong.) I could have sworn I remember readint that "clutcity.net" was doing something with rivals....but maybe I didn't understand that fully.

I'm guessing that's the main reason for the Mass e-mail to give us the leak on all the information?

clutch- Thanx again on the site, and all its incredibleness. =) I've been visiting for years, and it hasn't ceased to impress me. I don't think I used to really read or check the BBS. More recently I've been leaving responses...
