Rezdawg, I'm about to start dental school in Aug. and was wondering why did you choose BU over any of the Texas schools (esp. since the tuition is more than half of out of state schools)? Also, I was wondering how long you've been out of dental school and how has life progressed since then? And as far as cheating goes, no comment.
This is a good reason for me to make a comment since it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. My college science gpa was around a 3.3. My overall gpa was a little higher, but a lot of schools focus on the science part...When I was applying, my science gpa was not up to par with the other Texas dental schools. I got an interview at UT-Houston and was later waitlisted...but I never got it. I was accepted to BU and NYU and chose BU for a number of reasons. I finished school last May...I started initially working at a place called Boston Healthcare for the Homeless. Basically, I did that because I thought it would be good experience. I did my 4th year externship at the clinic, so I knew the place pretty well and I thought I was seeing some crazy cases, so I wanted to continue that for a few months. I carried a couple jobs (both part time that add up to full time). The reason for this is that when you work in private practice, you will see more cosmetic cases such as crowns, veneers, implants, etc... When you work at a dental chain type place, you gain a lot of experience in terms of being efficient. So, I combined the two so that I could get the best of both worlds. Just recently moved from Boston back to Houston...Im working on plans of starting my own practice, but there is a lot that goes into it and Im just trying to educate myself in that area. Hoping to get something launched within the next 6-8 months if I think it is financially reasonable (I have 250,000 in loans, so I need to put that into consideration as well). Will you be in Texas for school? If you have any questions that I can help with, hit me up.
Yeah, I'll be attending UTDB-Houston in Aug. Are you currently working in Houston right now? The main question I have is about how hard it is to find a job in or around Houston. I've seen inflated numbers everywhere I've looked about how much a starting dentist makes and I just wanted to know from someone who is in that situation right now. If you could answer these questions, just PM me through the board (doubt you would want to give out all that publicly). If not I understand, thanks either way.
HOLY ****ING ****! This is the thread I have been praying to God himself for every night since MacBeth left. Thank you sweet Jesus. 50 bucks says Brightside snitched.
Nah, its cool...I wont be saying anything that isnt already public information. Houston has plenty of jobs...just depends on what exactly you want to do...if you want to see 30 patients a day in a medicare/medicaid practice where the focus is on speed and efficiency...or if you want a more slow paced experience in a private practice. There will be more than enough jobs. I also know a lot of dentists, so thats been helpful for me as well. As far as starting salary, depends on if you are getting paid on production or a set salary...also depends on how many days a week you want to work. At the absolute LEAST, you should be getting about 500 dollars a day immediately out of school. Anything below this then you are either getting screwed by the practice or you arent being productive in the office. My classmates salaries range from ~120K - 200K for their first year. The higher end salaries are the ones that are seeing 30 patients a day and getting paid based on production (usually around 30-32% of how much you gross).
Sorry bro, you admitted yourself even though it was probably a dick move... at the same its pretty damn ridiculous
I ain't no b**** ass snitch. If there is one thing I have ever learned from rapper Cam'ron is it doesn't pay to be a snitch. <object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wTwipn-Fp_U&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wTwipn-Fp_U&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x3a3a3a&color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>
^^ Actually, it doesn't suck. He's extremely fortunate and it seems like there is something to be learned from this. And beyond that, I am very impressed with BU for following through on this. Gives me hope for academic and professional integrity. In the history of this BBS, this thread is one of the more remarkable ones I've ever seen.
On a serious note, I'm absolutely willing to bet it was a lurker. I cannot imagine any regular poster here doing that.
