Ok, I found the dell disks it came with and told the computer to boot from the CD. That isn't doing it. How do I restore to original settings? I'm not seeing something that says restore or anything.
Ok, I think I'm doing it finally. One odd thing is it doesn't seem to be overwriting anything. For example, when it asked which partition I wanted the operating system in, I went with the one with the most free space. It said that there was already another OS on there and that two OS on the same partition could cause the old OS to not run properly. Why the hell wouldn't it just ask to overwrite?!?
On Dells running XP, if you want to restore the OS to like it was when you first bought the machine, you just hit CTRL-F11 while booting up. That's what I did with my laptop in the past anyway. It will install all the drivers you need. All you'd need to do is to apply all the subsequent patches needed for Windows after you bought the machine (which it can do automatically just by running Windows Update). With memory parity errors, it almost seems like memory chip errors, but then you have so many dang issues, it could be motherboard issues, too.
Well, I will try that if what I'm doing now. It just finished formatting, rebooted and now appears to be installing windows XP. It says setup will complete in 34 minutes right now.
Alright, well now the computer is back online. Back to the multimedia audio controller. That didn't install..... again.
I was going to google how you can restore to factory like I said, but DoD had already touched on that. Good luck with that, and if it's a physical disk problem, I wouldn't know what to do except buying a new harddrive
Well, I had a housewarming party last night, and Harrisment came over and fixed my sound problems in about 10 minutes. I think he got my video working, also. Thanks bro! Looks like for the time being all systems are finally at a go.
