Alright, still stuck on the multimedia audio controller missing. ie. my sound still doesn't work. Looked all over the place last night, and even saw people that had similar issues, but couldn't find a working download for this, either. Can I buy a card for this, also? I'm not sure I'd even know where to put it, as it came with whatever factory settings were. ie. I never upgraded the sound on it. Oh, and when I go to the Dell site now to try and download what is supposed to be the original configurations, I get the wonderful pop-up "Windows cannot find the file to open this program." It is like my entire computer was swept. Ugh.
I haven't bothered reading past the first page and the 4th page, so I don't know the latest. What's the deal with it now fatty? Does it still need fixing outside of the internet?
Yes, I still can't fix my sound. Read up a few posts for the specific details. Surely this can't be this difficult a problem.
Oh, I have it. 2H4ZG61. I've had all of them burned to a CD and downloaded with no success, and if I try to download them from MY computer, it says it can't find the appropriate program to open the stupid thing, so what ever opens dell downloads was erased as well, it seems.
I have given up on helping you. You don't even answer people's questions and being so vague and expect people to read your mind. Trouble shooting something like your is pretty straight forward but I had the most headache trying to trouble shooting for someone that's doesn't follow instructions or respond to the instructions.
Yeah, your "just install the audio driver" was a great help... Newsflash: I DID download all of the Dell downloads from the link you put on here. It didn't work. My computer will NOT find the program to download any of Dell's website's stuff on my computer. I've explained I'm not computer savvy, but the suggestions you've given did not work, and I've explained this.
Really? Did you even try following my instructions to extra the file and browse for it? Did it work or didn't work or you didn't even bother with it or understood what I meant? And I don't even understand what you're saying here. THis is what I meant about being vague. It's like you're trying to make people guess what you're trying to say here. "I've had all of them burned to a CD and downloaded with no success, and if I try to download them from MY computer, it says it can't find the appropriate program to open the stupid thing, so what ever opens dell downloads was erased as well, it seems."
Alright, posting this from my phone. Seriously stipend, WTF?!? I finally got my computer working again this evening and within 2 hours it is completely screwed again. Now the blue screen of death says "*** Hardware Malfunction Call your hardware vendor for support MMI: parity check / Memory parity error *** the system has halted *** Seriously, what do I need now?!?
Good God. I went in and set it to "last good settings" and it booted up. But now my mouse doesn't work. (I tried two of them) And when I try to go back into safe mode, or anything else, the mouse no longer works. If you have limited knowledge of computers, please keep learning. This has been a complete headache for three weeks now. I am livid.
So, haven't tried backup all of your data, do a completely resintall of windows with the CD that came with your computer, and then put your files back? Or even if you don't have the CD anymore, the Dells always have a separate harddrive partition that, when accessed from the boot-up screen, will restore everything back to the factory setting. A complete restoration/reinstallation, at this point imo, should be the best way to fix your computer with least amount of headache.
Ok, on my boot device menu I have the following prompts: Onboard or usb floppy drive Onboard sata hard drive Onboard or usb CD-ROM drive Onboard network controller System setup Hard drive diagnostics Boot to utility partition Which of these will get it to restore back to factory settings? Oh, and when I was doing a system test the mouse worked fine. But it will no longer work when I go to windows.
Is all your data that need backed up? Pop in the Restore CD that came with your computer, and be on your merry way.
I don't have the restore CD. Is there a way I can restore without it? Or can I go to a best buy and purchase the CD? I couldn't care less about saved data at this point.
You threw away the copy of Windows that came with your computer? If so, make sure you have downloaded ALL the drivers for your dell, get a copy of Windows, and do a complete new install.
Don't forget to backup the downloaded drivers, since the new install will wipe out everything on the disk. To do a complete install, you would boot from the CD and follow the prompts. With all the different problems that seem to be happening, has the motherboard been checked out?
Ok, I ran a system check on everything. The tests that are failing are in the sata disk s/n. The confidence test, read test and verify test all come up with incorrectable data error or media is write protected. Would buying a new windows XP fix this? Ugh.
As I mentioned, since so many different thing are showing problems, it is probably an issue such as a motherboard problem. It could also be an overheating problem. Is the fan running and not blocked by dust/grime? My guess is a reinstall won't fix things, but if it something you can cheaply try, it would be worth the effort. If it was just a disk problem, I would have more confidence in a reformat, SW reinstall working. It did for my Mac when I had a bad spot on my disk drive.
