Well, just realize I can't currently access those sites right now on there. Will a new ethernet card allow me to get internet access on its own?
People can't help you if you're just going in circles with your information and not answering people's questions. It seems to me you guys aren't sure what driver(s) to install for your network card. I even ask you if this card is integrated with the motherboard or separated(PCI)? If it's integrated, you might be able to know exactly what it is by checking out with the Dell site and they might have the proper driver for you if they computer isn't very old. The reason you're getting all the exclamation marks because you've install the wrong drivers for it.
yeah that is the point. 1. Get a new card to fix the network issue. 2. Try to either diable the old ethernet device or fix the issues with automatic driver updates.
XP isn't like Vista or Windows 7 where it will automatically install the proper drivers for you. Never use XP SP3 but SP3 might be a solution if you're not up to date with SP3. I mean there's nothing wrong with his Network card. It's been working fine until they did something to it.
I have XP and it installs all of the drivers you need on the windows update site. Between that and the dell website I am sure he can quickly determine if he can fix it. And if not just disable it.
What he can try is to uninstall and delete all the exclamation marks and reboot and let Windows XP try to reinstall those drivers. Like I said. If he's not using SP3, he should install that because that might have some extra drivers and bug fixes that could determine his hardwares setup better than SP1 or SP2.
I didn't see any prompt that allowed me to delete them. I can try and see if I'm able to do that when I get home.
if you delete them you will be in the same boat of needing drivers with no internet connection. The easiest and fastest thing to do is get a new card.
Are you able to boot into safe mode or get to POST(F8) and do a system restore your windows to earlier date that it was working? How did you delete it in the first place?
YOu can also try this. Dell Driver Download . If you know exactly what type of computer you bought from them, you can try downloading their drivers from there and put it on a disk when you get home.
If what I listed as a potential problem was the problem, a new NIC will not fix it. I consider my option to be more likely. Entertaining the idea that the NIC happened to break simultaneously with your spyware removal seems too coincidental.
OK, I just sent a guy in our office this link and just told him to select "download all" for me. Hopefully that will work.
I wish stipendlax had responded, though. I can't imagine him not trying to get the downloads from Dell, himself.
Hopefully you chose the proper Dell Dimension that you bought to download? Just asking just in case you've downloaded all the drivers that isn't compatible with the brand number that you've bought.
This is why I say it is always good to be friends with a nerd and a doctor. both are priceless when you are in need.
Anyone here can fix faulty capacitors on a motherboard? That is what the shop told me was wrong with my older laptop. Said it may be cheaper to have someone fix a bad capacitor than replace the whole motherboard. If not, can someone point me to a good place to get cheaper or even used motherboards for laptops? I have a dead Compaq Presario with an AMD motherboard (M2000 series)
