Cheap Tillman spending $70M on new training facility

Man promised a practice facilities ages ago, don't expect folks to kiss his a$$ for taking this long to build one.

It will be inside of the league's only 767, and Daryl never asked for a new one

 

Tilman owns some high dollar property in the galleria area.

 

how long ago did he promise it? how long does it take to get permits, buy land, design it, hire a construction company, contractors, etc.? this on top of the supply chain BS that happened between 2020-2022. once all that is done, when is it safe to announce the new facility?

2017 was when he was talking about wanting to build a top of the line training facility.

It's gonna b open in 2024, so what 7 years? But yea keep heaping praises for taking this long to get one built.

 

He proclaimed the need for it at least 6 years ago. But some things have happened since then. Plus, if you’ve seen a Rocky movie, you know that shitty training facilities build a hunger inside. It’s good that these youngsters were not pampered right out of the gate.

 

is this longer than average for most new practice facilities, 7 years from initial announcement/promise to completion? also throw in a pandemic in the middle for fun

 

Personally, I would've liked to hear it was being built in downtown close to Toyota Center. Makes a little more sense to me.

 

ah yes let me open my trivia book to look up the average time it takes to build a new practice facilities.

Man it's only a matter of time before Tilman builds a new Rockets arena in the Galleria area, he loves that side of town.

 

i think he was referring to spoiling the official announcement of the practice facility not him taking this long to build one. could b wrong

 

If $70M is an accurate number then it's on the high end for NBA practice facility costs. Sixers and Lakers facilities are more but most seem to be in the $40M to $50M range. Nice.

 

It was probably for both reasons

 

well if you want to get mad at how long it has taken to get a new practice facility, it'd be good to have references to how long other teams took and if they dealt with pandemics in the middle where materials became sparse and expensive. Many many construction projects got delayed because of it that are now under construction
