If Omer Asik goes as a part of the S&T for Josh Smith (or for another reason), the team will need to fill in at backup C and probably won't have much money to do it with either in terms of cap space/exceptions or in terms of trade assets and even $ going out for contract matching purposes. Can you get a decent enough real C for that money or are they better off just playing Greg Smith? Names that come to mind for me: Birdman Andersen: Highly effective. Older. But probably staying in Miami. Sam Dalembert: But Clutch said in the podcast that he burned too many bridges. Greg Oden: High injury risk. Very talented. Probably looking for a team that will give him more of an opportunity to get substantial minutes in at least the intermediate future. Elton Brand: Short but long arms. Pretty good post defender/rebounder while playing an undersized center for Dallas.
Robin Lopez would be perfect, but it seems the Blazers are offering him good money and a starting spot.
Toronto needs to waive Camby first, but yeah he would be pretty good if he stays healthy. He played pretty well here in his last stint.
IF they were able to get Dwight & Smith there would be hardly anything left to spend. I'm sure they would be thinking a veteran pg and wing position.. Greg Smith should be fine for backup mins
