If you'd like to have seafood on the island the place locals go for the quality and the price is Shrimp and Stuff. It's located on 39th and Ave O. If you go you must get the Shrimp Gumbo. I haven't found one better and I get gumbo every place that I go that has it available.

I've been in Pointe West the last five or six weekends in a row. This weekend is the Lone Star Rally, so be prepared to share the roads with a multitude of motorcycles. Be safe! We eat all over the island every weekend, so I have some input. You'll be driving all the way to San Luis Pass, so you'll see all of the West end. IMHO, Blue Water Grill has the best burger on the island; they also have the "improved Cesar salad" I mentioned in Fatty's thread. If you are feeling especially obnoxious, they have a bacon, bacon, bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. It appears to have a pound of bacon on it. It's a complete hole in the wall, but they make some pretty good grub. I don't claim to be a Greek food expert, but the Strand location of Olympia (and you can sit outside there and watch the boats and ships go by) is the best Greek restaurant I've been to........I like it better than the Niko Niko's and the Yia Yia Mary's. I haven't been to the Cajun Greek post Ike, but that place was pretty awesome before. I never actually had Greek food there........just seafood. The Spot isn't bad, but will probably be overrun this weekend. The wife and I went to Simps last weekend. Soul food served cafeteria style. The wife thought we might have gotten some funny looks being the only crackers in the restaurant, but I was too busy with my pork chops, mustard greens and black eyes to notice. It was damn good, and the serving sizes are flat out ridiculous. There's lots of off the beaten path, pretty good Mexican food joints. Our favorite right now is Mi Abuelita's Home Style Mexican Restaurant on 45th. Remember that Pointe West has two huge gas grills at the pool area that are available on a first come, first serve basis. With the cooler weather, they will probably not be used by anyone this weekend. Are you in a condo or house? Either way, chances are good that you'll have a grill to use right at where you are staying. If you decide to cook at Pointe West, do your shopping on the way out..............it's twenty minutes or more back to Wal-mart. Galveston has a pretty decent Specs now. If you have any surf fishing gear at all, THIS will be a great weekend. If you see an old, fat guy with a big blue cast net, I'll give you some finger mullet if they are out there............and they have been.

thanks for the post. yeah, we're in a house and we have a grill right on site. stopping on the way out of town somewhere just to get some burgers and what not cause we're not going to shell out a bunch of money for food only to have those yokels who won't chip in or whatever.

    here's the house we'll be at. http://www.vrbo.com/291995
