Beltre's deal averages just under 13 mill a year. Beltran's deal averages 17 mill a year. You could get Beltre and maybe another average position player, back end starter, or reliever for the price of Beltran.

Yes, you do have to look at average. But I'd rather pay a little more per year and not have to pay a guy 17 mil when he is 35 like we are doing with Bagwell. Those long term contracts can really screw up the payroll in later years.
