His church is very important. Anybody who knowingly chooses to associate himself (over 20 years) with such a preacher has exercised extremely poor judgement. He also brought his church into this by appointing Wright to a campaign position. Obama dug his own grave on that issue - it's hardly a 3rd order effect as you tried to sweep it under the rug...
Of course he also dealt with the issue, removed Wright from the campaign, and plainly denounced the few offensive things that Wright has said. The end.
McCain is clearly obama's moral superior. what would be even better is if bush could run again. things are really looking up, why quit now? can't he just incarcerate the supreme court or something?
He called his grandmother a racist then when called on that used an offensive racial sterotype. The end.
He spoke honestly about his grandmother who shares her fear of certain minorities with many others, and I'm sorry if that makes you uncomfortable. He was also complex enough to still point out that his grandmother loved him, and he loved her, etc. He was actually talking about a real issue that confronts a lot of people.
I can totally see Obama's grandma going to a Klansman meeting after tucking him to bed. They just don't make racists like those anymore.
Whether he spoke honest or not about her isn't the issue. The issue is that he compared her level of racist beliefs to those of Pastor Wright and that isn't an honest comparison nor does it justify the behavior of either persom. Pastor Wright has gone out of his way to spread an ignornat message to a great deal of people and Obama aligned himself with an idiot. Either that or Obama believed in the message Wright was delivering. Judging from comments from his wife, his own usage of racial sterotypes, his lavish praise of Wright in the past and appointing Wright to a religous committee, I'd say Obama buys in to that tired old message of Wright's. Obama just knows that he won't get elected if he lets people know what he really thinks. Complex??? If that's a complex response for him, he's not that damn smart, is he? The real issue is the one you can't comprehend at all. The real issue is that racism goes both ways and Obama's in a position that he can't go around tossing out racial sterotypes. He doesn't get a pass because of his African heritage. Whether he spoke honest or not about her isn't the issue. The issue is that he compared her level of racist beliefs to Pastor Wright and that's isn't an honest comparison nor does it justify the behavior of either people.
