We can't really blame Morey for that one.. We need to give the benefit of the doubt to Morey. We don't know what happend behind closed doors, we do all know of Leslie Alexanders huge Man-Crush on T-Mac My feeling is Leslie said no to the trade and not Morey, I don't think Alexander will let T-Mac be traded.
I am pretty sure Morey has to bare the total and complete blame for this big blunder of a "non-trade" that became the Tmac billups affair. Les may have had his opinions, but back when Rudy Gay was the HOTTEST prospect Morey managed to convince him to trade the BEST MOST ATHLETIC STAR OF THE DRAFT for Shane Battier. Don't see how Morey wasn't able to convince him to take on Mr Big Shot and save money... BIG BLUNDER BY MOREY. MAY HAVE RUINED YAO'S PRIME YEARS.
Tracy is Les' sacred cow and he would have veto power over any trade thereof - that's pretty obvious if you've followed the team for the last 15 years.
i say we let it expire and sign a max contract player, a la wade, bosh, lebron in 2010. we don't need a bunch of role players, we already have that. we need a legit all-star next to yao.
Rumors aren't mistakes. The Iverson deal was the best one for the Pistons, they get cap space this year and can start remaking the team this summer. Mistakes are trading for Artest, not being able to resign him, not getting out of the first round, losing a young talent like Donte Greene and a 1st round draft pick. Only 20/20 hindsight dictates whether a trade was a mistake.
The Rockets have won 50+ games, have good young players and are looking good in the playoffs and you have people whining and b*tching about a rumored trade from 4 months ago!?
and tmac's contract rolls off next year. Do people understand how important that is? we're a winning team, we have a guy who is one season removed from being a top level player still and he has a bad year, they still win fifty plus and said top level player can come back and play well or not come back at all. it doesn't matter.
I'll defend Morey. If you're him, and you're assuming T-Mac is still T-Mac and not Tracy HalfGrady, you keep T-Mac, his incredibly skill set, and his expiring contract. Trying to play devil's advocate here.
The source is unreliable. That trade was never offered. Dumars spent all of last summer making it known that CB was available, and he needed that fake offer to be beat with a large expiring contract, something that Tracy will not have for another 14 months. The problem is, some news outlets know a plant when they hear it. Some websites do not. Or, they don't care.
that would've been funny if that trade had happened.... cavs sweep of detroit would put the blame on tmac... "IT'S ON ME"
You're overestimating Battier. He's old and declining while Gay can still improve so remove a few >'s: Shane>>>>>Gay. -> Fixed Oh yeah, and people calling trading for Billups a good move? Billups is not worth the money the Nuggets are paying him. He's a good player, but he's not worth his contract which is why Morey didn't trade for him. If he was that good Detroit would never have let him go I'd rather take my chances in the free agent bonanza then tie myself up multiple years with Billups' contract
Make no mistake Billups was a huge upgrade over AI and the reason why the Nuggets can now be taken seriously in the postseason. But to sit here and do 20/20 hindsight on Morey not doing that rumored deal is pretty convenient for the casual fan to say I told you so.
