    I believe it comes down to this:

    Can/Will Microsoft let Bing Chat thrive outside of a walled garden. Microsoft does well when it controls the software but does poorly in an open environment.

    Can Google find a way to make its version profitable. Google is destroying its brand with the massive ad onslaught. Youtube has become complete garbage with all of the ads.

    How should AI systems behave, and who should decide? (openai.com)

    We’re clarifying how ChatGPT’s behavior is shaped and our plans for improving that behavior, allowing more user customization, and getting more public input into our decision-making in these areas.

    OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI)[1]

    ChatGPT, users have shared outputs that they consider politically biased, offensive, or otherwise objectionable. In many cases, we think that the concerns raised have been valid and have uncovered real limitations of our systems which we want to address. We’ve also seen a few misconceptions about how our systems and policies work together to shape the outputs you get from ChatGPT.

    Below, we summarize:

    • How ChatGPT’s behavior is shaped;
    • How we plan to improve ChatGPT’s default behavior;
    • Our intent to allow more system customization; and
    • Our efforts to get more public input on our decision-making

    +1. YT Premium is completely worth the cost if you're a daily YT watcher.

    Noam Chomsky: The False Promise of ChatGPT

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/08/opinion/noam-chomsky-chatgpt-ai.html?smid=url-share

    excerpt:

    Note, for all the seemingly sophisticated thought and language, the moral indifference born of unintelligence. Here, ChatGPT exhibits something like the banality of evil: plagiarism and apathy and obviation. It summarizes the standard arguments in the literature by a kind of super-autocomplete, refuses to take a stand on anything, pleads not merely ignorance but lack of intelligence and ultimately offers a “just following orders” defense, shifting responsibility to its creators.

    In short, ChatGPT and its brethren are constitutionally unable to balance creativity with constraint. They either overgenerate (producing both truths and falsehoods, endorsing ethical and unethical decisions alike) or undergenerate (exhibiting noncommitment to any decisions and indifference to consequences). Given the amorality, faux science and linguistic incompetence of these systems, we can only laugh or cry at their popularity.
