Scottie Pippen is one of the most overrated players in NBA history. He was a great defender, but it bothers me when people call him 'best ever' and such. There are WAY too many defensive specialists in the NBA for that to be true. MJ was a better defender for one. His offense was nothing special. He's a bad shooter (32% 3point and 70% ft) and only averaged 16 points in his 35 minutes per game over his career. I'm not saying he was bad, but these are hardly numbers that should qualify for top 20 all-time discussions. If he had been on a team that wasn't so ridiculously loaded and had he not won the championships, we probably wouldn't even recognize his name.

It's true, but part of the reason was to keep Jordan fresh so he could put up big numbers on offense.

Yea boy Pippen is so overrated

Went 55-27 the year after MJ quit the game.

Averaged 21/10/7 in the NBA finals in 1991. Oh so so overated :rolleyes:

Pippen and Jordan are both better defenders than LeBron.

Pippen was a more versatile defender than MJ, but did that make him better. Not necessarily, as great as Pippen was as a defender he couldn't impose his will as nearly as much MJ could. Though, I do think Pippen was little better defensively than MJ, when both players were in their 30s.

Personally, no. Those players were all slightly better at worst than Pippen. You can also throw Rick Barry in there as well, even Kevin Durant (who will end up having a better career than Pippen).

Jordan did not guard Magic in 91' finals. He was bad post defender, so Pippen did it.

quit on multiple teams, was a locker cancer and refused to go into a play-off game during the closing seconds when the game was on the line because he was pissed at Phil Jackson.

Tell the whole story mister rolleyeyes.

Being on a team that goes 55-27 doesn't make you a top 20 player all time. He was very good, I'll give him that, but that team was loaded even without him and MJ.

    I can keep adding names:

    Dominique Wilkens
    Rick Berry
    Kevin Durrant
    Dr J
    Adrian Dantly
    Paul Pierce
    Mark Aguirre

    etc.... I could go on.

This is true primarily because, unlike the taller and more versatile Pippen, MJ had a real hard time defending swingmen that were good on the block, especially in his later years. I remember Shandon Anderson of all people absolutely lighting his ass up down there.

Pippen was probably stronger and more athletically gifted (Dr. J is close) than all of the guys up there except Lebron. (However I never watched Elgin Baylor & Havlicek).

Mentally, he was allot weaker than all of them except for maybe Lebron.
He also wined more than all of the guys above and displayed less leadership.

Talent is there, but his ability to lead a team is lacking, so no I would not pick Pippen over any of the above guys, unless he was a sidekick the same way Worthy was to Magic.
