Bud is really a tweener. He's not strong enough to guard sf's and he's not quick enough to guard sg's. What cahse really needs to do is compete more on both sides and play ball. People would feel comfortable if he labeled a fiesty defender like sasha v or manu, but it seems like he doesn't even compete. This is a large part of the reason his talent landed him midway in the 2nd rd. He has talent and if he were quicker, I like him as a sg. Now its easy to say martin doesn't compete on defense either, because he doesn't, but he's a very, very effecient offensively player. Bud just needs to compete and everything else will fall into place.
try responding to the merits of my breakdown of Chase's game, rather than a sweeping statement that you don't agree with me. You don't want to face the fact that his game is subpar and potentially tragic in almost every category, except shooting. "thinking" does not explain the utter softness in his game. "growing pains" does not explain the lack of willingness to body up and defend someone. seriously, just give it a try and break down the various facets of chase's game. I think you'll have a much harder time dismissing the weaknesses in his game if you actually analyze it. And morey and adelman are running him out there because there's nobody better behind him. Until Terrence Williams gets up to speed thatis.
My take on Bud is this. He has potential. So he is receiving adequate minutes to develop himself. He is being allowed to show whether he belongs. He is also being watched by other teams (presumably). Its up to Bud. If he fails to show continued improvement for long, their are guys ready to take his minutes. So the pressure is on and the clock is ticking. I dont know how much sand is left in his hourglass though.
In fairness to DD, Budinger HAS looked better recently. But that isn't too hard considering how bad he started. He's never going to be more than a role player, that much is obvious. He's a smart offensive player who doesn't have the desire, abilities or strength (pick one) to be a good defender.
Until Bud can string together some decent outings against some good teams I still think he is the worst player by far getting major minutes in the rotation. When he decides to show up against the upper tier teams on both ends of the floor let me know.
We let JT wait his turn(just to be trade bait) and look what happened! I dont want TWill to be traded cause he has waaaaaaay more potential than Chase
Agreed, he is a very good outside shooter, who has slumped this year. I would say incomplete he has shown the ability to get to the middle on the bounce, but overall, I would agree with below average. He attacks the basket quite often, and has numerous highlight reel dunks. I agree he should explode through the contact instead of avoid it, but I think that he needs to be coached to do that, and will as he gets stronger. He rebounds very well, I totally disagree here, his rebounding rate in minimal minutes is quite good. Agree that his lateral movement is not the best, think the way the Rox are asking him to defend is lousy, he needs to lay off and attack on the shot, rather than try to play up in someone's face which invites driving, and fouling as he can not keep up.- experience is needed. Shooting is one of the most important attributes in the league, but he has to do more if he wants to be a starter, he is only 22 years old...I don't think he has scratched the surface on his ceiling. You just named guys that only contribute in one way as able to contribute in multiple ways...strange... I think he is a valuable piece off the bench and needs to snap out of his funk and go back to his aggressive play of last year. Young players have a tendency to let other parts of their games struggle when they are not doing what they do well.......very well. Chase is a young guy....22 years old....give him time. DD
Hey, buddy, We are looking at the last 5!!! Let's make a thread when he has 15 games at solid production. You jumped the gun, son.
Bud will come around. He'll be very valuable to team success again. You people need to calm down. Even if he's merely a good gunner off the bench, couldn't you all be happy with that?
Is Chase even a good outside shooter? Or was last year merely an anomaly and Chase has fallen back to earth? Luther Head at one point was a terrific outside shooter who had an explosive season but fell back to earth soon after. Chase is an extremely late pick, 40+ other teams passed him up for a good reason, and it isn't because of his health (like Dejuan Blair).
Chase Budinger makes three quarters of a million dollars and he was drafted 44th overall with a pick that Les bought. I'm okay with his production.
No, I said all he has been is a career backup, but that does not mean that is all he will ever be. DD
Exactly. His stats are fine the last 5 games. But the minutes (and games really) it took for him to obtain these stats terrible. I was never an Ariza or Artest fan and last year I was really hoping that Bud would fill the void but I'm going with CLee...At the same time, IF he ups his production for the price the rockets pay him, he is definitely worth it.
Not at all, I think AB is better, and will remain the starter, but Lowry could start in some places, maybe here if AB is traded. DD
