Seriously. Somehow he has a 4 page thread devoted to Bud's improvement, and has repeatedly called out posters for not supporting Bud's "turnaround" DD...playing horrible for the whole season, then having 2 great games, then reverting back to horrible again for 3 games, does not = coming out of a slump. Fingers crossed that he does, it's not like we play any defensive juggernauts coming up here, but most recent evidence has him in as much as a slump as he was earlier in the season. I like Bud and am excited when he does well, but his upside seems very very limited to me. If he's shooting well, he can be a nice, 15 mpg guy shooting some threes off the bench - talking averages here, he'll have a game or two where he'll go off, but on average a 7th or 8th guy off the bench at best. Which is fine. It's a decent NBA career for him. But he's got absolutely no defense, no handles, no play-making ability and isn't a special rebounder for someone with his size or athletic ability.
As a ROCKETS fan, I am not celebrating Budinger's "turnaround" because even after this "turnaround" he is still not helping the ROCKETS. In fact, every moment he steps on the basketball court he is still hurting the ROCKETS. Maybe to a slightly lesser degree than the sheer incompetence of before, but hurting nonetheless. Now if I were Budinger's mom or bride-to-be, then yes I would gladly celebrate his phoneix-like rise from the ashes the past 5 games. Well, his FG% at least. Unfortunately, as a ROCKETS fan, I couldn't care less about any of his PERSONAL success or turnaround.
We're Rockets fans, but our own eyes tell us that C-Dud is still playing just about as poorly as he's been all year. He looks completely and utterly lost out there. Also, this entire thread has a desperate "See? I wasn't wrong!!" smell to it. With all due respect, of course.
You got that right. Jeesh, for someone who talks about earning playing time Adelman sure is sticking to his teachers pet. He's almost useless on the floor and I honestly thing he has naked pictures of RJ Adelman.
Like cheering a stock that has lost 50% of its value when it goes back up 18% from rock bottom... Still a work in progress.
For some reason I think Adelman thinks he could be the next Peja. This is the only aspect I dislike about Adelman. Much like JVG, he definitely sticks with his guys even if they stink. I would understand if Bud had upside, but he doesn't. Last year is as good as he's ever going to be.
I doubt that I mean who is Adelman going to play instead of Chase? With Ariza being traded the only true SF on the team are Shane and Chase. Supposedly Chase was supposed to take the starting job but now that he has been given more minutes he has yet to produce anything of value to the team this year. Williams being able to play the SF spot could signify even less playing time for Budinger in the future. Depending on how Williams does in practices and how quickly he picks up the offense. Possible after a few practices with the team Williams will start eating into Chase's minutes. Chase is the only guy whose minutes he can eat into. Lee has been playing a lot better of late and if anything deserves more minutes himself, its not like Williams is going to take away any of Brooks and Lowry's minutes that really just leaves Shane and Chase. At this point if Williams does turn into the player we all hope to be (a big if of course) a split of 25/23 of Shane and Williams at the 3 spot is something I would be ok with. As for Chase he picked up the offense really well and fast but his shot has been off this year no doubt and that worries me at this far into the season. Also there wasnt much development in his game this past off season which also is a possible red flag but its still way too early to say anything about that right now. I think Chase can be useful for this team but his defense is bad, and that is being nice about it and opposing teams for whatever reason single him out real quick. I mean when Linas Kleiza becomes the go to guy down the stretch because he has Chase on him...something has gone awfully wrong. Personally rather than his offense I would want to see better effort on the defensive end from Chase. His shooting is down but we all know he can score but scoring 10 and giving up 12 is not a recipe for winning. Otherwise as you said maybe the way his rookie year is the best we could expect out of him, i think he has some more upside of course not nearly as much as some others here do.
I think overall the criticism of Bud is a little overboard. I think most of us have heard of the sophomore slump right? It happens. It is something that usually gets worked through.
Oh puhhhleeassse...he says the same thing about everyone he gets...Ariza, Taylor, Dorsey...everyone...... I love Morey, but the man is marketing for the masses, make your own judgements based upon merit.... DD
I believe he is too short to effectively play the 3, I think he is more of a playmaking 2 guard with defense. Someone to play alongside either Lowry or Brooks....... If you notice, he is doing the other things better, and not worrying so much if his shot is falling. And, he has had a few blocked during that time too, lowering his percentage. He has been playing better and better for the last few weeks, it is fairly obvious that he is regaining his form. DD
No, what's obvious is what we see in his game log. The last 3 look like this.. 3/7 1/6 3/8 He clearly has not regained his form. Unless, his form was abysmal to begin with. Terrance Williams will be taking his spot soon enough.
wow, I guess one inch is all that separates Williams from being that perfect SF that you claim Bud be in terms of size.
Chase Buddinger - how he rates in comparison to SF's you'd like to have. 1. Shooting: let's say he is a plus outside shooter. 2. Creating his own shot: Lousy 3. Attacking the basket: terrified of contact. 4. Rebounding: weak. again, afraid of contact. But he jumps really high to get the rebounds that come to him. 5. Defense: bad lateral movement, afraid of contact, makes marshmallows seem tough. 6. Potential: Ahhhh, that's where he might get you. Skeeeeellllz. He can dribble. He can shoot. I'd take him first at the rec center, but not so much for the NBA. Chase Buddinger is pretty bad, but his tantalizing ability to be a shooter from distance could bring him up to tolerable. Take it away and he is atrocious. If we're interested in a SF that can space the floor, my goodness we're so much better off with either (i) a pure shooter that can actually hit reliably, like a Kyle Korver, or (ii) a Ronnie Brewer, Mathews, Posey, or Rasual butler that can shoot a percentage that isn't embarassing, but also contribute in other ways. Buddinger is close to a waste of space ----- UNLESS, Morey can get some other GM to buy into that tantalizing rec center skeeeelll set.
Wow, I could not disagree more with you. I think he is just going through growing pains where he is being asked to expand upon the game he has played his entire career and is thinking a bit too much. I think he is a lot better than you do, and judging by the fact that Adelman and Morey keep running him out there, I think they do too. DD
