That's right. In hindsight, it's probably good that we let him go. Otherwise we're looking at #17 or #18 instead of #14. Of course if we hadn't traded for Camby, we'd be looking at about #9.
Actually, we'd be looking at NOT having a pick, since it would have been conveyed to the Nets. Full disclosure: I was in favor of making the playoffs and conveying that pick; and I think the Rockets would have (at least to some extent) been viewed by guys like Dwight Howard and Deron Williams as a more attractive destination. But either route had its merits.
I like Hayes a lot. But I don't buy that Hayes is worth 5 extra wins over his replacement. The team completely underachieved this past year. It was a step backwards.
So is it fair to say this trade was a fail? The F we picked has a bigger contract than the one we just gave away, and he may not be better than Bud. Or is it too early to tell since we don't know if we are keeping the pick?
