bobcats? Dragons? Reminds me of middle school. "Flight" sounds like a cool name though...

codell proves once again that an Office Space quote is always appropriate, no matter what the subject.

I like Dragons, assuming they come up with a very fierce looking one. No Puff's please.

Wait a second, why not, the Charlotte North Carolinians? No? Sounds stupid? Oh. What about the Charlotte Texans then?

    Exactly.

That's part of the reason I like "Texans" now.

I'm sorry, but CATS and BASKETBALL do not go together.
    Exhibit A: "Cat" Mobley

Dragons sounds like a team name from one of those fake football leagues in Europe or something

Flight would only be cool if a portrait of the wright brothers was their logo and if their mascot was a colonial-looking character named Sir Walter. They could have a "throwback night" and wear colonial outfits with those goofy looking colonial hats that everyone wears around thanksgiving time. They could call their arena "The Cournicopia", and they could schedule a game against the Indians on thanksgiving day and say it was not on purpose, but we would all see the irony. What does this have to do with FLIGHT? Actually, they should be called the COLONIALS. I think that was an old ABA team....

cased closed. we will call them the HORNETS, a tribute to charlotte teams of the past. New Orleans can change their name to the JAZZ and Utah can change their name back to the MORMONS. They should be called the MORMONS just so Sloan can rename his playbook "The Book of Mormon".

    What school would this be?

    How about the Charlotte Doves.

That way, they can play the Atlanta Hawks and have some kind of instant rivalry where the fans protest alot.

Or the Charlotte Cosmos. And have a red star, and a spaceship orbiting the earth or something.

If it is "Flight" Nike has something to do with it.

    Charlotte Cyclones
    Charlotte Banshes
    Charlotte Tigers
    Charlotte Panthers
    Charlotte Diablos
    Charlotte Razorbacks

    It could be worse:p

On a side note, the Texans should have been named the Stallions.

And about the Charlotte team name, I guess Flight is the best out of those 3, although Im not really a big fan of it.

In a perfect world Utah would give "Jazz" back to new orleans where it belongs. New orleans gets their Hornets back if they choose to. Than Utah has to figure out what to do.

I like "Flight" of the 3 remaining. Bobcats is to general. I think every expansion has bobcats as a final choice but for whatever reason it just never happens. Dragons is just stupid I cant imagine a decent looking logo. so I guess its the Charlotte Flight

Nice try Madmax, but sorry, no:

New York Yankees > New York New Yorkers

    Philadelphia Phillies > Philadelphia Pennsylvanians

Montreal Canadiens, not very good but > Montreal Quebecois

But they do play Sinatra's "New York, New York" (that may not be the name) after every win in Yankee stadium. Does that count?

what??? either way, it's not very inventive, as has been said about the houston texans. the fact is, there is a stereotype about a texan..an image that comes to mind. i have no idea what a phillie is, other than a person from Philadelphia. Montreal Canadiens is the same principal...ok...instead of a province/state they reference the country's name. would you be happier with the Houston Americans?

the point is, the Texans weren't the first to do this...and there are some very classic franchises that have gone this rout.

No, it wasn't inventive back then. But I'm willing to mete out an exemption for a team who's owners picked a boring name at some point in the 19th century for that purpose. Everything was pretty boring back then. And it is undeniable that "Yanks" and "Phillies" have a liittle bit more going for them than "New Yorkers" or "Pennsylvanians".

As for Canadiens, yeah that name is pretty boring. That's why most people from Montreal have referred to them for the last half century as Les Habitants, or the Habs.

fair enough...i'm just satisfied with a very conservative, classical name. as opposed to the raptors...or the bobcats...or the dragons or flight or something like that.

the texans name, combined with the logo and colors, is pretty traditional...it won't go out of style. that's the sign of a good logo.
