I am trying to go visit a friend of mine out there and have been looking at weekend trips in August. I even tried going on a Thursday through Monday, but the cheapest fares on cheap tickets, orbitz, expedia, and travelocity all range between $400 - $800!!!! What gives? Why the hell is it so damn expensive to fly there?!?!?!?
I fly out of Greensboro (1 and 1/2 hours from Charlotte) to Houston on Continental and with 2-3 weeks lead time and a Saturday night stayover, I can usually get a ticket for about $220. I just did it in April. And it's a direct, non-stop flight, too. Go to Continental.com and check them out.
You might consider flying into a location close by. Atlanta is about 3 hours from there and there are places near like Columbia, SC and even Raleigh/Durham, NC. I visited Richmond, Virginia years ago and found it was much cheaper to fly to Washington, DC (about 1 1/2 hours north of there).
Greensboro sounds reasonable at 1.5 hours away. I just dont see why Charlotte is so expensive.... makes no sense to me. My friend is on limited time and I really didnt want to inconvenience him to drive to get me in Greensboro or Raleigh... I'll keep looking.
That's strange. I was about to suggest orbitz but now see you've tried that. I'm trying to take a flight to Raleigh for the end of July and found some on orbitz for $208 with United Airlines. Good luck man.
