    My friend passed away last night or so...

    I saw him live many times well before I knew him, that guy and his band could put on a show. After he couldn't sing anymore (throat polyps, iirc), and we knew each other in the Hill Country inside of yards instead of outside of bars, I realized how brilliant and kind and straight up awesome the dude was.

    This is one hell of a start to an article, and I can picture exactly where they were:

    If beer goggles are the standard justification for regrettable decisions made when the bars close, perhaps the culprit that late Tuesday night in August 1993 could be called beer GPS. Our “current location” was the Deep Eddy Cabaret, a bait shop turned friendly tavern in Austin.

    I was just a fan going all the way back to Two Hoots and a Holler. Even as just a fan, I feel his loss. I can't imagine being both a fan and friend. He was way too young to be taken.

    Glad you like some songs. I listened to NYD at 6am this morning, don't judge me

    His brother Bruce, married to Kelly Willis (they do a lot of shows together), is also a fantastic singer/songwriter
