http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2885555 Pallilo's move to KBME from KILT looks likely By DAVID BARRON Copyright 2004 Houston Chronicle Charlie Pallilo has not been on the air this week on KILT's (610 AM) afternoon talk show. Pardon me for belaboring the obvious, but the obvious is the only element that anyone will acknowledge this week regarding Pallilo's employment status. The expectation and speculation in Houston radio circles is that Pallilo, whose contract with KILT expired in September, has worked his final shift on KILT and that he will begin work in December or January with Clear Channel Radio when KBME (790 AM) becomes the market's second all-sports outlet. However, as Daffy Duck was fond of saying, there are legalities involved here. Pallilo as of earlier this week continued to refer to KILT as his employer but declined to comment on his future. Laura Morris, KILT's station manager, and Ken Charles, director of AM programming for Clear Channel in Houston, also declined to comment. In Pallilo's absence, Rich Lord has worked the afternoon shift this week solo and with David Dalati. That could continue through December or whenever KBME signs on with the rights to broadcast ESPN Radio in Houston. At that point, KILT is expected to use morning hosts John Granato and Lance Zierlein from 6 to 11 a.m., followed by the Jim Rome show from 11 to 2 p.m. One scenario has Marc Vandermeer working from 2 to 4 p.m.; another has him teaming with Lord during afternoon drive time. Stay tuned for details.
I actually enjoy Vandy more than Dalati, MJ, J-fizzle, or any other possible Rich co-host. I dunno... just somethin about the way he comes off on the radio... its nice to listen to. Of course, if Charlie is over at KBME, and he's in drive-time, I'll probably be listenin over there anyways... (and, any word on who else will follow him there when their contracts run out? Rich, maybe?) More John and Lance is good... but 6 hours worth? They better have some call-in impressions ready.
I agree with you Nick. I think it's because you get the feeling that Vandy doesn't always think he knows more than his listeners. Even if these guys probably do know more than their listener, being arrogant about it isn't very appealing to me. Vandameer has a bit of humbleness to him, I think, whereas most sports radio hosts don't.
But according to him he is "a better than average golfer" if you are to believe his commercial for some golf course.
I used to like Vandameer but he was obviously a Francis hater which is fine but the guy is such an apologist for every other sports star in this town.
he had never heard the song before. It came off pretty good. I have another one for a few weeks from now that's funnier. It's not a song, though.
You should get him to do the prayer from The Boondock Saints. McManus Prayer If you need to eat up more time...do the whole Courtroom speech
