    I am with you pryuen.

A doctor cannot just label a person with a disease without examine him/her. It is unethical. Team Yao can also send a complain to American medical comittee and have them look into the case.
He should do it so it can prevent the incidence like this in the future.
For him being lable as such, may effect his career so he have a right to complain and sue who ever said it.

Well if Yao Ming's parents are average height Chinese at 5ft 7 (male) or 5ft 3 (female), then you might suspect that Yao Ming got Gigantism.

But hey, Yao Zhiyuan is at least 6ft 7 or 8, and Fang Fengdi is 6 ft 3, and they are both basketball players.......

I would say it is more genetic than Gigantism......

Yao is tall but should not be catorgorized as a result of giantism!!
He is a son of very tall parents who genes naturally contributed to having tall children. With better science in food and medicine he grew up to be extra tall.
The tall ones who suffer from giantisn have definite feature characteristics, just look at George Murisan.

Yao is just tall not giantism!

Giantism will have certain kind of looks, like Gheorge Muresun, Andre the Giant and Sun Ming Ming!

i'm not a medical specialist either but i work in health care. d00d,
an occupational specialist is one who deals with Occupational Therapy, OT...which is basically a pragmatic sect of PT, Physical Therapy...people are referred to these Dr's by Orthopedic Surgeons, mainly, after they've gone through a crippling ordeal. An Occupational Specialist is very much so in the realm of Orthopedics, and it wouldn't surpise me in the least if he is an orthopedic surgeon also.

    jus' sayin'

i like how your taking it to them though. cause this whole article stinks of defamation, slander or however you call it.

My friend and fellow hoop-o-maniac, Dr. Tom Winters, is a cognitive impairment specialist at New England Baptist Hospital, and he agrees that Rosen is officially an "idiot".

One of the many problems connected with idiotism (which is a disease of the neocortex) is the deleterious effects on soft brain tissue. With weakened and stretched neocortical circuits, the overloaded frontal lobes of such as Rosen simply fail to get the structural support they require. Stupid statements, jaundiced commentary, and wildly erroneous predictions are inevitable. As are eventual urinary difficulties.

Unfortunately, Rosen's cognitive problems will only get worse, especially since his brain is being subjected to the incredible stresses of public writing. That's why Dr. Tom believes that Rosen's career will ultimately be short-lived.

Eaton I believe had better strength, but not mobility than Yao. Shawn Bradley was very mobile when he entered the league, but did not have the desire or strength of Yao. I remember him dribbling the ball full-court on a fast break for a dunk with the 76ers. Manute was just a gangly shot-blocking, trey-shooting sideshow.

Those guys had pretty long careers. That gives me some hope for Yao, because Yao looks better proportioned and motivated. I agree that Yao cannot be compared with anyone else, because there's never been a guy this height and weight that was ever deserving of starter's minutes. That's why I worry about Yao's health.

Anyway, back to the topic: Rosen is an idiot! ;)

An occupational therapist has nothing to do with orthopedics. An OT is not even an MD. A doctor specialized in occupational medicine is usually an internist who specializes in evidence-based occupation-related medicine. They are usually trained in internal medicine, as in the case of this Tom Winters. The internists probably do not even know how to hold a scalpel properly let alone asking them to diagnose any bone fractures. The specialists who usually deal with pituitary tumors are the endocrinologists.

I don't think he's the one Rosen was referring to. This one has a private practice in Orlando and is not affiliated with New England Baptist Hospital.

    Mark Eaton?

I realized after posting this that someone else mentioned the big fella from Utah. Wikipedia listed his playing ht/wt as 7'4" and 290. I would guess he topped 300 fairly quickly after his rookie season. He was a very effective defender of the paint and quite a shot blocker. He was active and didn't have the foul trouble Yao has had as I recall. I also don't remember him being injury prone, just really large.
