Rosen has gone to some great lengths to find ways to diss the Rockets, but this? Damn, this is just f*ckin rediculous.

The main syndrome of "gigantism" is very low IQ like Mr. Rosen's.

This is a boat load of crap. People with gigantism has very obvious facial features, like Muresan or Sun Mingming. Yao is huge because both of his parents are very tall.

I still wouldn't call Yao injury prone yet. Accidents do happen. Both of his last two injuries he got hit by someone else, the last one two guys rammed into his leg.

I saw how Gasol broke his little toe (the same injury Yao got last year when kicked by Okur) in the WC, nobody was even near him. He was driving baseline to the hoop, and broke the toe when his foot coming down to the floor--just a normal landing. I call that fragile bones.

For a girl as demure as Ye Li, she probably won't be able to tell what is or what is not. :D

why even put negative energy like this into the atmosphere? it's basically, wishing bad health on someone. Not cool. Yao Ming, or otherwise.

Incorrect. I just talked to the doctor who gave Yao his physical and stress test and he said he was checked for pituitary abnormalities and had none. 100% positive, end of story. Trust me, even though I'm a rookie, lets just say I know the doctor very well.

I trust you, because as others have said, he truly has no signs of pituitary problems. He's got longer bones than most of us, and that in itself probably makes them more prone than others' for fractures. Especially when he's banging around and getting hit.

He's just had a string of bad luck.

Yao's height is purely genetic. Yao's dad is 6'7" and his mother is 6'3".

His size is not the product of his pituitary producing excess growth hormone like Pavel Podkolzin of the Dallas Mavericks and Sun Ming Ming, which both underwent surgeries to remove tumors pressing up against their pituitary gland.

This reminds me of that dude a couple years back that said Yao was some sort of experiment by the Chinese government, trying to create sensationalism in order to sell more books.

Charlie Rosen better stop spreading around these nasty rumors or he's gonna wind up being sued by Team Yao. Notice he was trying to cover his ass by saying this "Dr. Tom Winters" cat, an orthopedic specialist at New England Baptist Hospital said Yao suffers from gigantism. Rosen adds he is "unqualified to make a medical diagnosis", but tries his best to convince us Yao height is from an abnormal pituitary secreting excess growth horomone.

What reason does he have to spread rumours about Yao? I think he's a jerkoff too, but in this case I think his commentary is more ignorance than malice.

I've learned not to underestimate Rosen's extreme hate for anything involving Jeff Van Gundy.

Mark Eaton was 7'4" and anchored the Utah Jazz frontline for years (or so it seemed). Artis Gilmore? I think he was around 7'3". Of course there were Shawn Bradley and Manute Bol, but they didn't play heavy minutes. I don't remember how often they were injured though.

None of them were over 300 lbs to my recollection though.

What's the reason you are so ready to let him off the hook?

A search for orthopedic specialists in the New England Baptist Hospital returns nobody named "Tom Winters."

When the search is expanded to the entire hospital, the name of "Thomas Winters" is found, but the guy's specialty is in occupational medicine, not orthopedics.

A Google search on "Tom Winters" shows a guy named "Thomas F. Winters Jr." is a licensed MD practicing orthopedics and sports medicine, but his clinic is based in Orlando, Florida, and the resume on his website mentions none whatsoever about his experience in New England Baptist Hospital.

That's enough evidence to "indict" Charley Rosen, if you ask me.

It's no secret he hates Van Gundy's guts for some reason. He takes shots at him every opportunity he gets. He used to do the same with Yao, but since his dominance has been on full display, he has cut way down. His article further illustrates how he's grasping at straws to find flaws in Yao. Why is he not singling out Zydrunas Ilgauskas? Shaq just had surgery to remove cartilage in his knee and has had history chronic arthritic toe problems causing him to miss 15-20 games a year. Last season, Shaq missed 25 games after he injured his ankle. Nenad Krstic just tore his knee ligament and is out for the season. Pau Gasol broke his foot in the same exact same bone as Yao, a jones fracture.

I just think it's absurd that he he'd have such a grudge against Yao Ming that he'd completely make up rumors about him. Maybe he's a compulsive liar.

Man, that guy's address and phone number are listed there.

Hmmm...I guess contacting him would provide a direct way to get our point across to Rosen about making sh*t up and providing false information....not that I'm advocating anything here.

    Just thinking out loud.

    Ahem...

OK, the footnote on that stub seems to indicate the response was provided by Bill Walton and not Charley Rosen.

I hope I'm wrong, because Walton is a nice guy and has generally been very generous to Yao in his commentating. His journalistic integrity takes a hit (claiming an occupational doctor to be an orthopaedic specialist) and declaring a random medical opinion as fact even though this doctor has never actually examined Yao. I really hope it isn't Bill that wrote this, because I'd be severely disappointed.

So there is a Tom Winters at that hospital. Maybe he isn't formally an orthopedic specialist, but calls himself one to make his opinions sound more credible. Or maybe Rosen called him one for that reason.
