JVG would never have let Barkley get back on the court if he would have been coach.

Yep, JVG never played old, broken down veterans.

Barkley played his heart out during his Rockets years. He may have taken some ill-advised threes here and there, but guys like Tracy McGrady could learn a lot from his on-the-court attitude.

The Pockets should retire Sir Charles' jersey.

For these reasons that tinman posted, I can never understand where the Charles hate comes from. The Chuckster played amazingly for the Rockets, I clearly remember watching the games from those years completely impressed with the all out style he played. He was truly a physical freak of nature playing the dominant power forward style he consistently showed against much bigger opponents. That year Charles, Clyde, and Hakeem lost to the Jazz in a heart-breaking WCF was the team I thought was even better than the championship years.

Barkley was a great player, but he has a loud mouth and not many smarts behind what he says. Everything you see about him these days has Phoenix in it somewhere and he hardly mentions the Rockets. I guess I find it hard to get all revved up about him. We traded some pretty good players for him and got not much in return so i will not mourn him or glorify him.

this post explains everything you need to know.

    1. its his TNT days of not kissing the Rockets ass (except that one time :) )
    2. YOFers complaining that "GOT NOT MUCH IN RETURN". Western Conference Finals?? I guess YOFers are spoiled by our 1st round playoff appearances.

You know that Charles Barkley, a 6 foot 6 guy can outrebound ANYONE on the Rockets now, don't you?

It is quite obvious that people who have seen Charles play that year know how hard he played. Even in his last game, he said " I just wanted to get a REBOUND"

Also forgotten was Charles playing for the NBA MINIMUM so that we could sign Pippen. No one in this era would ever ever ever do that.

i love chuck- the guy is hilarious. and for those of who only know him from the wade commercials, TNT, and the bavetta race, he was one HELL of a player too. one of the best rebounders ever, and could back up his mouth with his game.

that being said- he was only a rocket for a few seasons. more importantly, the only way to remember him was in those ****ty clownstripe uniforms. its not ur fault, chuck.

Never liked the way Chuck played offense but his defense was good. He slowed the game way down and disrupted the Rockets offense when he got the ball on the left block and used his big butt to back down opponents. Then he'd turn around and shoot and miss half his shots but it took too long to do this. It disrupted the flow of the game. I always felt that the Rockets played better when the offense flowed.

It's the same criticism with Franchise..when he dribbled the ball under the basket and dribbled it a full 360 degrees back to the key. He also took too much time and didn't allow the offense to flow.

Rudy T said that going to Barkley on the left block was the Rockets most effective offensive play. While you may not have enjoyed watching it, it didn't disrupt the offense, it was the offense.

he got alot of boards and we went to the WCF. missing half your shots? 50% from the field is great.

its amazing how we can criticize a player when he clearly helped us beat our foe Seattle and help us go to the WCF. The Dream wasn't the dream that could run down strickland . Clyde wasn't gauranteed to make an easy dunk.

we were old. but we were clearly an elite team.
    back in the day :(

I like Barkley, he is a good guy.
He put a lot of heart in the court.
And when they came to Mexico in the only regular season game in Mexico (vs Dallas), I got an autograph and a handshake of him :) I was wearing his jersey and the were in the pregame warm-up, then he saw me, and talked to me.

I have to vote in between, but since that is not an option I will not vote. I liked him when he played for us. But i will remember him more as a sun(and thereby as a rival). so he is not simply the best(that is Hakeem already), but it is not like i'm happy we lost him.
