    Per New Yorker:

"All of this is moot. We'll find out come May/JUne or not. If the Rockets lose to the Mav/Suns/Spurs/Jazz - then Barkeley was right. Otherwise he's wrong. Just wait and see folks. It's really simple."

If all of this is moot-pointless- a waste of time - then why post here in this thread?

I get it - Charles Barkley says that---We are not a good team- or at least not an elite team. We will not beat SA, Pho, Dal, Utah, Denver, or Kobe in LA.

Desert Scar is right that we have not proven anything since Barkley was a Rocket. We ahve not proven anything even though we are winning witout Yao Ming.

We may not even make the playoffs - much less get past the 1st round.

    My personal observations and opinion:

    1) We have a special team here that I am really proud of after many years of being a season ticket holder and putting my money where my mouth is. -I supported this team and attended a full season of games when we had Francis, Cato, Walt Williams, Moochie, etc. We have come from mediocrity to where we are now. We have all been waiting a long time to get to this level of play in a very tough Western conference-in one of the toughest divisions I would argue in NBA history.

I have been called the antifan here for questioning the coaches decisions on player minutes. I support Van Gundy. I am loyal to this team.

I do not like being dismissed so quickly by Barkley.

I realize not to take Barkley seriously as he is a paid clown on TNT. He is not an analyst-he is pure entertainment and laughs- he takes no serious responsibillity for what he says.

Charles Barkley KNOWS what it takes to win championships.

His post-season predictions are impeccable. He was also right on target with his assessment of Yao Ming.

    How's butt-kicking business, Charles?

I am very proud of this team this season. The team has hung in there in hard times without Yao Ming.

charles isn't going to change his opinion cause he played for the rockets franchise. we still have to prove ourselves against dallas and phoenix.
he's right about that. unfortunately we're never 100% when we face these dudes. i'm not upset at all. what is he suppose to say? we're going to win the NBA finals?

I realize we have not proven ourselves. I am proud of how thisteam has done and is doing withoout Yao Ming. Look at our record. Awesome!!!!

I realize Charles does not owe us any loyalty- I will never expect it. I would like the same respect he gives Utah, LA Kobe, Denver, -our peers.

I do not appreciate Charles Barkley urinating all over the Rockets accomplishments this season. I realize he is pure entertainment and not responsible for anything he says.

I certainly do not expect him to say we will win the finals.

Mom told me to never listen to someone who has been on a three day drinking bender! Chuck and Vegas? Come on! listening to the Chuckster is the same as putting stock into your horoscope off of Yahoo.

Charles is right. It isn't just us playing smart but do we really have the pieces that can win it all. Yao Mutombo Mcgrady battier are the only players that i see as pieces to a championship team. I like Raefer but I still see him as a back up at best. We don't need a superstar at ever position but we do need players that are threats if they are wide open. Opposing teams should be thinking do we let the superstars try to beat us or do we let the role players try to beat us. I believe most teams just let our teams role players try and beat them because of how unreliable guys like raefer bonzi and the rest are...

Barkley's opinion seems to be his honest evaluation of the teams. However, it does not appear that he is very well informed about the Rockets. Like many national media types, he doesn't catch Rockets games that often. In fact, when the Rockets were on TNT for the first time this year, he admitted that that was the first time he saw them all year. I don't believe he does enough research for anyone to take his thoughts too seriously.

Barkley is not very good at speaking or making predictions. Its actually great that he thinks we cant beat any of the elite teams. Hopefully, the Rockets surprise everyone this summer. I cant wait for Yao to get back on the court....we need to start gelling asap

guys charles is right though, and ernie, reggie and kenny both agreed. we cannot beat the suns and mavs thats a fact right now, and spurs and utah are both good too. we'd go 7 games with the spurs and utah but they'd still be slight favorites. ask any of the top teams (mavs, spurs, suns) who they'd rather play in a 7-game series, the rockets, the jazz, or the lakers, and i guarantee you they'd all pick the rockets.

I disagree. I think we are much scarier than the Jazz or Lakers. I think even Denver might be "scarier" than those two. Denver, like us, has mega stars around some talent than could be big trouble to anyone in a 7 game series if it comes together.

IMO we are a solid 4th--behind Dallas, Suns, and Spurs--in most undesirable to play in the West, and potentially could overtake the Spurs.

Personally I think only the Suns, Rockets and Denver have much of a chance versus the Mavs. The Mavs have shown they can beat SA even playing SA's style, and I don't think Utah or LAL could present a big problem to the Mavs either.

fortunately, we do not have to play them in a 7 game series right now. when we do play them in a 7-game series, it will be with Yao, hopefully. i have no idea if they WILL beat the suns or mavs in 7-game series then. but i know they absolutely CAN. far crazier things have happened in sports.

Barkley is right, whether you guys want to see it or not.

Even with Yao back, this team most likely won't make it out of the first round. JVG will likely be outcoached once again.

This from a guy who admitted he lost $2.5M in 6 hours playing Blackjack??!!
I'm not sure how he managed that dubious feat playing a game where the house edge is well under 1% when correct basic strategy is used. He should kiss Kenny Smith's a$$ again for that level of stupidity.

Anyone got $2.5M to bet Sir Charles that we can beat those guys in the playoffs?

Dallas is easier to be beat than Phoenix for Rox, although both probabilities are below 50%. San Antonio is as tough as Dallas. Utah is a joke, we won't meet them in the playoff.

I think it's perfect timing. When he was a Sun and predicted that he and "14,000" of his closest friends were going to celebrate their win that night... well... you know what happened there.

and I don't have time to scroll back and see who it was, but whoever said Charles came here and busted his ass must have ignored all the talk about how he doesn't work hard enough. Just ask MJ, he'll tell ya, the man never wanted it bad enough to put the work in to win a championship... and he had his chances.

Maybe Chuckster LIKES the rockets and merely wants to put a fire under them.

Regardless, being the underdog is good, and NOT being Charles' pick is VERY good.

Oh, but I forgot KENNY SMITH AGREED WITH HIM? OH NO!!!! We're doomed, DOOMED I TELL YA.

Now, if we had one sandwich... and we were driving... no wait... you were driving.. and you had a sandwich... wait, step back. I'm driving... and we both have this one sandwich... oh screw it.
