So we're supposed to fault Lebron for going to a team he thinks has the best chance to win? Even though Cleveland won 60+ games, they weren't good enough to win a championship anytime soon. He should stay with them hoping that they get a great second fiddle to push them over the top? He also went to a team because he liked the players on their roster. Hmmm, let's see. Stay at Cleveland and get close but never over the hump for a championship (he already gave them 7 years). Or you could go to a team with a better chance to win and with guys you like. That's a real tough decision.

You're right in terms of if he wanted to win a championship that badly, then he did the right thing by choosing Miami. But if he wants to be considered one of the greatest players of all time and his legacy to be up there with Jordan or Kobe, then he should have stayed in Cleveland and tried to win a championship there. I can't believe some people thought Lebron was ready to take the torch away from Kobe. Lebron will never be mentioned under the same breath as MJ or Kobe, no matter how many championships he wins in Miami.

why is everyone just casting aside the fact that lebron quit on the cavs in the celtics series? in my memory i cant recall a player that looked more uninterested in those last 2 or 3 games of a playoff series than lebron did.

Yep all those championship rings he's wearing proves your point...

    ...wait...

If he was capable of carrying a team and being 'The Man' he wouldn't have have wussed out and joined Wade and Bosh. He basically admitted he wasn't by making that move.

Magic, Bird and Jordan manned up and competed AGAINST each other, they didn't team up because they were scared little b****es.

KG told lebron he stayed 4 yrs too long in minny. Deal is, when you play in a cold weather, small city, you have to be right about every player and you have to hit it on the international guys who aren't used to the big cities and great weather. Sa, prior to manu's free agency year started clearing out cap room for him. Since he was a 2nd rd pick, they had to clear enough to match. Denver offered 6 yrs 52m and the spurs matched. If the spurs had lost manu and parker didn't devlop like he did, duncan wouldve left after one of those famous 3yr contracts. The spurs have been ahead of the game on the international thing and those smaller, cold weather cities better get on the ball too. Players in america, especially the high end types look at where they're living during and in the off season. Most international players just go back to their homeland.

Kareem changed teams and only won titles when he had HOF teammates. Wilt changed teams multiple times and only won two titles. Bird and Magic had multiple HOF teammates. If all of these guys can be mentioned (usually ahead of Kobe) in the discussion of all-time greats, Lebron can be as well, even if he only wins titles with Wade and Bosh (who everyone is overrating, by the way) as teammates.

They had the best record in the league for the last two years straight - you're telling me that they couldn't be considered among the "top 6 teams in the league" by winning 60 games? I think your standards are a bit too lofty.

CB is right, but I doubt that Lebron cares that much about his legacy.....

You can't not be the the guy and also expect to have your legacy stay intact in the likings of MJ, Bird, Magic, Kobe, etc. Barkley was spot on.

really? the guy who refers to himself as "King".....the guy who just made this whole decision on an hour long tv program?

i think he absolutely cares about his legacy...but more about it as a "brand name" than the guys with hard core killer instinct who make up the list of the very best to who have ever played the game.

He teamed up with them later in his career...

He also said he would have not made the move when he was 25, he would have tried to get it on his own... Which he did with Philly and Phoenix.

And how did that workout for him? He ended up old and ringless.

By choosing the best opportunity to win, did Lebron choose an easier way out? Sure, but Cleveland's roster is mediocre and there was no promise to get any better. Championships are never guaranteed and if he ended up thirty-something, miserable and ringless while stuck in Cleveland - he would've regretted this forever. This is an opportunity to do something historic and I can't blame him for taking it.

Dude, I love Hakeem but that is the ONLY example in the last 30 years of a team with one elite player carrying a team to a ring by himself. Have numerous examples elsewhere of that model failing miserably. Not something you want to risk your prime years with.

actually he joined the Suns past his peak- 29 going on 30. And the 'round mound' had left a lot of tread on the floor in Philly. So he was on point, self-referentially, when he wished LBJ would have given it 5 more years in Cleveland.
Now as to being 12 years with the same team, under that scenario, might be asking a bit much, when Barkley was in Philly for 8 seasons with nothing to show for it prior to moving out West.

No, him obviously carrying the Cavs for a number of years proves my point.

well the guy is reining back to back mvp, he is obviously very good. he obviously is not gonna waste his time trying to be the next michael jordan, by joining the heat he has showed us he is willing to put his ego behind him, willing to sacrifice millions of dollars, willing to give up mvp after mvp award, willing to be a part of something bigger than himself. he has made this move to win, ofcourse he is not going to be michael jordan, those dont come around every 10 years. he is going to be lebron james, the smart guy who sacrificed big money in his prime to play with guys he genuinely likes for a better chance at winning a ring.

the ring is not guaranteed, they still have to go out and earn it. some people are comparing this to the yankees...its not even close. the yankess just go and buy a bunch of sell outs and over pay everyone just so they cant turn the offer down. lebron is leaving 30 million on the table. will he make that up? no, he wont, thats 30 million dollars that he will never see. will he be so rich some day that 30 million is meaningless to him, i dont know thats a lot of jack.

everyone wants to hate, but being prideful doesnt work out all the time. its great to see a man step up and put his pride behind him and decide to be part of a team.
