Its all semantics... hell, to say you can have 4-5 "elite" teams really undermines the word and definition of "elite".

Last year, there really was only one "elite" team... and they ended up winning the championship.

Now, if he comes out and says the Rockets are "no good", or that they're a "joke"... by all means, spit the vitriol.

In the mean time, him picking the 4 Vegas-picked odds-on favorites to win the West as "his" favorites isn't really news-worthy.

Not really when it comes to odds before the season starts.

Right before the season started last year, the Warriors had the 6th best odds to win the title. Rockets had the 8th best odds. Sandwiched in between them were the Wizards, with the 7th best odds.

They gave the Rockets the 6th best odds to win the Western Conference behind the Spurs, Thunder, Clippers, Warriors and Mavericks.

They predicted the Rockets to win 49 games. They predicted the Warriors to win 51.

Just proves Chuck's ability to grab attention.

He does it without effort unlike Stephen a smith.

Besides what's wrong with being a the 5th seed?

    ;)

Betting before mid season is really hard.

You can't factor in trades or injuries

In this context you said Vegas is usually right. And in this context, they are not.

neither chuck or Lin has any ability to grab anything in the closing seconds. Just ask Jeff.

    I'll take the 6th over the 5th.

Vegas is simply a dynamic reflection of the betting public.

Last year, not a lot of money was coming in on the Rockets... so their odds had to be lowered. To the majority of the nation, Howard was still considered a net negative, Harden was considered a poor defender who relies only on free throws, and McHale had just gotten out-coached badly in the playoffs. Kudos to you if you bet big on them finishing in the top 2 or winning 55+ games.... but the majority of the public wasn't, hence where they placed their odds where they did. (and similar arguments could be made for GSW with a rookie head coach coming in).

This year, like every year, Vegas odds will be based on public perception... as it is now, OKC is thrusted right back into the contender mode because everybody believes Durant is 100% and Billy Donovan can only make them better than Brooks did. Lots of money coming in on them, so they have to adjust their expected finish to reflect that.

What was vegas odds during the yao tmac era?

Saying you are mad at rankings and actually putting real money on how you feel are two different things.

You should never bet on emotion

Vegas odds don't always reflect the odds of winning. They reflect how people bet.

Les Alexander owes him like $50 bucks so don't expect to hear anything good about the Rockets till they get that cleared up
