I never understood this forcing blood thing. Wouldn't that be against the 5th amendment? If they invent a device that can read your mind could you be forced to take it?

Back in the day I had a lot of friends who worked at Hooters. It seemed like once a month one of them was arrested because they were pulled over as soon as they left work by Shenandoah for speeding. They were arrested for unpaid traffic tickets but I think those cops just liked busting Hooters girls.

I also had an experience where my brother and I were there (we split a pitcher of beer) and as we walked out we saw a cop pull up behind his parked, brand new Mustang and take a long look at the temporary plate (it was still valid) on the back of the car.. The cop immediately reversed and hid in a parking spot a few rows down behind an SUV and sits. We went back inside, grabbed a new table where we could see him leave and drank some sodas while the guy camped out for almost 20 minutes before he gave up and left.

I usually go out in the midtown area...

The cops are out which is cool with me. But what i think is messed up is there are dozens of tow trucks. People are kind of forced to make a decison of "well do i crash at a friends place and risk my car getting towed" or "do i try to drive home even though im a litttle buzzed"...

Even the paid parking lots will tow your car come 4am.

There are countless cars towed I highly doubt all of them were parked in a fire lane etc...They should let people leave their cars overnight rather than tow cars for people that are doing the right thing and NOT drivng. ESP if its a PAID parking lot...

I'm not sure those numbers are always the case. A friend of mine got a DWI conviction a couple of years ago, after blowing a .15. This friend also got in an accident. They only had to pay a $600 fine, another $1,000 in court/lawyer fees, and license suspended for a year. And scared straight and learned a lesson, to say the least.

Meanwhile, someone else I know blew barely over the limit and they mentioned to me they had to pay the $1,000 x 3 years like you mentioned above. So I'm not sure why they got different punishments.

It may be a difference in the time the person was convicted. As of 2003, this is the way the Driver Responsibility Program works:

At the time of your conviction, the court is under NO OBLIGATION to tell you about the DPS "surcharge" for a guilty conviction - and they often don't because, I assume, more people will avoid pleading guilty and will require more of the court's time and so on.

I've never had a DWI, but I did get pulled over once for driving without insurance (complicated issue because I was actually insured at the time) and that requires three annual payments of $300.

NOTE: The annual payments are COMPLETELY SEPARATE from court costs and fines imposed by the court for the actual punishment of the crime. A person pulled over for a DWI will only pay $3000 if they have the lowest possible payment in the current system.

Yep, and Harrisment, they only have to send your friend one piece of mail saying it was suspended.

I'm guessing your friend hasn't been pulled over recently. Those costs are current and your friend will go to county if they aren't paid.

I'd have them check with DPS pronto on their current status before dealing with that nightmare.
