Needs to be packaged in a trade, he needs the ball in his hands to be effective and he won't get that development in Houston. DD
This is truly rock bottom. Doesn't help we have one of the slowest paces in the NBA which tends to favor slower and less athletic players. Things would be a bit easier if we were attacking earlier and faster sometimes. There also seems to be a drag on all the perimeter players' finishing at the rim. FVV, Amen, Green, Tari and Brooks are all performing at or below expectations from there. Anyway, Green will get there. You can't ignore a lifetime of bad coaching and development. Will take as much time as we predicted before the season: a significant amount of experience dropping and learning habits under Ime. These benchings are the best thing that could happen to him, he's experienced it less that anyone else on the roster. Let's see how he responds.
Green just has to be more consistent. Period. I mean that's really all there is to it. He can't be a key starter on a good team if you can't depend on the guy.
We had to change our team for one player before that was a super athlete in Westbrook and it stunk, same here for Green. Green may or may not get there, but it won't be in Houston, time to trade him to a team in which he gets the ball in his hands and the Rockets get a good to decent player now who is more consistent and understands the game of basketball with a high Bball IQ. Both parties win. And stop blaming coaches, Jalen is an individual contractor - he should be getting better and working on his deficiencies on his own, and he isn't he worked on things he was already decent at, he needs handles, he needs a shooting reform, he needs to learn counter moves, he needs competition to use those moves, he needs higher BBALL IQ to learn to play off the ball - these are all things he lacks.....he won't get them here - that has to be on his own....he makes enough $$$$ to be working on those things, that is what his contemporaries are doing getting better every year, Jalen is marginally better.....same numbers with THOUSANDS of opportunities to get better and not have it happen, yet. DD
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm confident about his future. The sooner we get to rock bottom the sooner we get out imo.
I think its pretty clear what Jalen needs to do. The better question is, is there anything Ime can do to make it more possible/likely that he can contribute more than he is? 1) Time. This may be all he needs. 2) Different role, different usage. 3) A change of scenery I would rather he be a solid 6th man than a struggling 2. Could either help or harm his development. I think this should be tried before we resort to trading him though. At some point though, letting time play out may not be the best strategy. Until someone has an epiphany to what is holding him back, all we can do is guess. Lastly, if nothing seems to work, and the FO feels he has been given enough time, a trade may be imminent.
Yeah. The fact that he's already been benched several times now tells me that the organization is done with the coddling. In his defense, this might be the only REAL coaching Jalen has ever had. The thing is, it's not from a lack of effort, he doesn't want to play poorly, and he has all the talent imaginable, he just can't put it together night after night. My fear is that the moment they trade him though, Jalen will figure it all out and become a superstar. I don't think they have much of a choice but to continue developing him. I just hope he puts it all together, because right now whether he does or not is pretty much anyone's guess. For the record, I really do think he will get it going, but I'm not convinced he will ever be consistent enough offensively to carry a winning team night after night. He's going to need a really solid supporting cast to carry the weight when his shot is inevitably off.
Unless some team makes a substantial offer that also fills a need, the course we are on the only one available. I am not trading him for a bag of Doritos.
7 assists.. a limit on shots taken.. Amen not forced to play.. almost 50/50 ball handling duties with JVV when on the floor at the same time.. just proves Coaching Staff prioritizing JG's training in playmaking could soon be the primary ball handler for the starters while Amen handles the bench team
Credit where it's due, Jalen had an extremely good game tonight by his standards. He kept the shot attempts down, made a high percentage of those he did take, and managed to pick up a lot of assists. I'd love it if this became the norm rather than feeling like a fluke.
7 assists and like 1 TO. He's had more of these types of games this season than all of last season combined. If he doesn't attack the basket aggressively, the TO's tend to stay down but then you lose the FTA's. Just needs to put it all together. We're almost there. My instinct says we're 8 games away from having a net positive consistent playmaker in Green. Very happy with the defensive and passing development this season. 3pt shooting is almost fine. Just need to finish at the rim consistently and frequently.
Jalen is out there battling. He's learning how to play inside out and be a connective player. He'll be better the more he runs into these issues and has to come up with an alternate plan of attack. The team as a whole is growing together everyone needs to remember it took Udokas Boston team an entire half season to figure it out. Things are advanced with us considering.
That little floater he made a couple of times last night is actually there in most games. Green has all these moves, but he has to hone in on them to make them consistently.
To be honest I'm over it. The mid range stuff is way too inconsistent. Yeah it would be nice if he could make them at near 50%, but right now there are two major parts of his game that need help: 3pters and finishing in the paint. We need more of that stuff from him and more efficiently. A Jalen Green mid range shot is so desirable by the opponent and we give it to them way too often. I think he should put it away till he has his bread and butter down. Later on introduce it as a counter.
