I worry as Simmons isn't just some clown on a msg board. Bill needs to have some degree of decorum if he’s going to carry a vote. It's just a very bizarre thing to say especially as a professional who has actual influence over Green's career.
Simmons loves to troll Rockets fans, he knew this would be a thing and drive traffic. He has never been able to get over how many came for him when he got clowned about saying Harden only has empty assist. He is very thin skinned and hates Houston fans, I used to take up for him, but it's obvious he really likes to troll certain fan basis. He has also become a bit of a diva since he sold to spotify.
He actually does not have an influence over his career. It's actually not bizarre in this age of saying outrages stuff to drive clicks.
When Jalen Green’s free throw rate declines in the playoffs while every other star has their’s increase, don’t be surprised why. when the other team is allowed to be far more physical than the Rockets and we consistently get screwed in the final 2 minutes report of big games, don’t wonder why that is the fckery has just begun
Yessir, nonsensical bs narratives by clueless voters cost Tatum $30 million to boot. Yet people claim they have no influence
Why do you all care so much about an All-Rookie Team award? It doesn't give Jalen a pay bump or make him eligible for a super-max, it doesn't make any difference as to a future HOF election, and it's not like a free agent in the summer of 2023 is going to make their decision to sign in Houston based on the individual accolades accumulated by Jalen. This kid might have had one of the most high profile failures ever for a rookie at the Dunk Contest, it didn't even phase him at all, and no one even talks about it after his buffet line of 30-burgers at the end of the year. He's mentally strong, and I have full confidence that he's got all the bulletin board material in the world to motivate him if he needs it. I would have more issue if this was for the All-NBA team, MVP, or DPOY, where being selected or not actually has massive financial ramifications for the players. I'm rooting for Jalen to get left off the ballot entirely, personally. Not because I don't think he deserves the honor, but if you want a f***ing narrative for a player, I can think of few better than people remembering him being "the worst player in the league", getting the NFT of a dunk he missed 7 times in a row, having his team go on a 7-game winning streak while he was injured, and him not even being judged one of the 10 best rookies in his class at the end of the year... ...smash cut to him coming back next year with 10 lbs of muscle, a reworked shot, THE #4 JERSEY, and leading an incredibly young team to the play-in. Bill Simmons gave us all a F**cking gift, and we all should thank our lucky stars for it. It's the Howard Dean Scream; it's totally out of context, it has no bearing on Jalen's actual future, but it's a meme that we all can use for the rest of Jalen's career here in Houston every time he drops 40 in a win. Enjoy it, the same way that when some internet rando accuses the Rockets of tanking, or the Astros of cheating, you just say, "I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention, I was watching Jalen Green and Paolo Banchero highlights on my phone, and had my 2017 WS Championship beanie on, so you were a bit muffled." Embrace the hate, and have fun proving them wrong.
they shape the narrative surrounding a player that the millions of casuals will eat up so yeah, we can shrug off freaking Herb Jones making 1st Team All-Rookie over Jalen Green because of “winning” as if he contributed so mightily to the Pelicans whopping 36 wins… Let’s just ignore that Cade being 1st Team isn’t a question despite his team’s record, and it shouldn’t be, so why is record used as a knock for Jalen Green? next we’ll be shrugging off why Jalen Green didn’t make an All-NBA team or get voted in as a reserve for the All-Star game somebody said that Matt Moore didn’t have Jalen on any All-Rookie Teams…I haven’t verified if that’s true, but if it is, my gawd this is why so many of these uppity analytics guys or podcasters can be so damn annoying…they try way too hard to be different/contrarians or “outsmart” people saying stuff so dumb that u must be the dumb one for not agreeing with the nonsense
Team defense is awful, that is on the coaching as of now. There is no game plan defensively it seems ever. It wont matter if we got 2 top 5 picks in the summer, we will still be bad until Silas either gets it together or is fired and replaced with someone better. There are some big names coming up that area available, would be worth a shot if they want to win. Gentry, Vogul, Walton, etc I am not sure on any of these guys, but would like D'Antoni and a defensive specialist coach.
Jalen was put in a position to fail by the adults in this organization. As he matures, we’ll see what fortitude he possesses in big moments. Give Jalen a real coach and point guard to go along with the incoming rookie. Surround him with tough defenders, like how Minny puts Bev next to Ant.
I hope Jalen doesn’t make 1st team and I hope he hears all the noise. I’m pretty sure he is the kind of guy where all that noise is going to fuel him. He’s already not going to get ROY. If he doesn’t make first team with Bill Simmons saying **** him and putting herb Jones ahead of him, Jalen may go supernova.
Honestly isn’t Jalen’s story so hilariously fitting to our franchise? We’re battle tested on this. They did it with Hakeem, Yao and Harden. Just because we can’t sign multiple stars at a time like they do, we have to listen to them calling our franchise players inadequate. The birth of a show-stealing franchise player in a top 5 market threatens the order of things. Knicks, Lakers and Clippers are declining again. Chicago did little to nothing. Brooklyn is the only hope which is why they’re scapegoating Harden. Jalen is not just a future scoring champion. If his defense improves gradually rather than regressing, he will become a winner easily and an icon soon after. His game is aesthetically beautiful to watch, power and grace is the magic combo. Multi ethnic, modern, stylish, confident. We’re looking at someone potentially worth more than the max all things considered. If anything, it’s a sign our instinct is right. I smell fear, people taking swings at him when there are no games to do the talking. He’s going to torch the Celtics next season btw.
