I keep saying it, he is a rhythm shooter. He is not a good shooter and when he is not shooting in rhythm, it's even worse. He would go like 5 possessions without touching the ball then get a catch and shoot 3 attempt. That is best way to set him up for failure
Is like to see more 2-man game with him and sengun. They look pretty solid together. I'd also lobe to see even more of the cut actions we saw from him tonight.
Yeah..and this kind of goes to my point a month or so back that if Green was allowed to play more garbage minutes his overall stats would look a lot better. He doesn't get to fluff up his stats in garbage time usually like normal rookies...not sure why he was allowed to tonight as usually he sits and watches and garbage time. I hope they continue to play in garbage time, not because I want him to fluff up his stats but I do think there is something that can be learned in garbage time. It's still against NBA competition and he can play with a bit more freedom in that time as well.
i am not saying he had a good game - I am saying it is promising if he puts up these stats in his off night. Everyone knows that he is struggling This season. With efficiency, defense etc. last game ended up with a decent fg% and seemingly good defense. Thanks to garbage time, sure but still there is a lot to learn in these minutes. His horrible defense to start the season has seemingly turned to at least average defense in record time. And we are seeing more from him on offense as well. He needs to shoot more consistently, learn a floater and put on strength. But the curve is looking up.
Finally! Never seen a single video of him working in this. This absolutely needs to happen. He has to add this or something similar. Looks meh right now, but if he stays at it, he can get this shot anytime he wants it.
I do not think "high lottery picks" play garbage minutes all the time, like you suggested. 3rd stringer vets and undrafted players play a lot of garbage time though. There is no such thing as "normal rookies" and "anomaly rookies" but young players that the franchise try to protect from wearing them down too much. And some are just cannon fodder in garbage time. I also think the Rockets garbage time is a little special, it can be deflating to lose the way the Rockets do. (Not helping anyone) Just turning it over en masse and then hope someone gets the ball back for an easy flush or just brick a 3 pointer. (The competition in garbage time is pretty bad but I guess it is better than a regular GLeague Ignite Game)
Jalen is clearly going to be dependent on 3’s, FT’s and defense. I can see his potential in all three areas being high. The monthly advanced stats in these areas paint a bright future for him if he keeps up this pace of progress for a couple of years. Getting stronger, not getting reffed like a rookie and experience will help a lot. Anyone who is above average at all 3 of these things is a great impact player worth $25m+. This is 100% true, but it's good for him to learn how to be efficient without having the ball too much. Players who don't figure that out tend to become inefficient or inconsistent. He'll look better in rhythm, but it's important for him to develop these good habits/skills.
i've got a bellyache from all the kool-aid i drank but i'm starting to believe more and more his shot is suffering from the weight training.. and i'm OKAY with that. he is clearly putting a lot of time in the gym and anyone who actually lifts knows that your shot is going to be inconsisent. there were some takes that jalen doesn't have the "frame" to build muscle mass. that is looking laugable right now. he could easily gain another 15-20 without slowing down imo. let's see what he looks like coming into pre-season next year. call me crazy but i'm excited.
Bukkake Watch 2022 .. Another 20 point game from Jalen. I thought Jalen had a great game. Stayed active on D when his shot was not falling. Evened out his stats during garbage time, but I dont see that as some negative he's shown that he can score on starters too. Let him keep shooting and working on his game during live contests. Boost his confidence going into upcoming games. Losing sucks but its part of the process. Gotta keep grinding.
He is streaky - not a classically good shooter.....he is only 20 though, and has improved in flow - but his shooting needs to get a lot better. DD
Bane laughs. "You merely adapted the weightroom. I was borrrn in a weightroom, molded by it." Only Ayo...Cato and Duarte are doing well, from all the first rounders, in regards to 3pointlandia. Ayo is at 40% then Duarte at 36% It spirals down quickly.
I've been a skeptic, but he's clearly improving. Playing with more intensity, improved A/TO ratio, doesn't look as lost on the court. If he can develop his change of pace / direction skills (Eurostep, spin move, etc) it should improve his at-the-rim scoring a lot, since defenses need to respect his speed. He has the athleticism for all these, but the test is whether he can become savvy enough to know when to deploy them.
Its an exercise in patience thats for sure. Things will continue to look better as his body fills out and he gains some experience.
