I get what you're saying but don't you think it's valuable that we essentially forced him to develop his off ball game in his rookie season? We can give him the keys going forward, but to be honest I was totally pro making him effective off the ball because I know you can't win with 1 superstar and the stars who can't play with others never get there. Imagine if you had done that for Westbrook in his first season for example? Harden was given a high usage off the bench for OKC, he spent little time off the ball. I don't think it's good for a player unless they're already good at it like a Lebron James who just always knew what to do off the ball.

Maybe we've positively edged his career in the right direction.

Look at the other players though. Horrible company with guys like Corey Brewer etc on there.

Matches the eye test. He really gets after it. Even more impressive considering he’s usually on the floor with Wood who offers zero rim protection behind him.

It's possible. The model I see with most stars however, especially in the modern NBA, is being able to orchestrate an offense. Cade has been doing that all season. He routinely brings the ball up the court, handles pick and role scenarios, calls plays, and responds to defensive sets (Trae, Luka, etc. all do this). Along the way, Cade shoots a lot. And I would have liked to have seen Green get that opportunity this season. And from the rare times we saw him placed in that role, like in the rookie game, he showed flashes of being able to do it well.

There are good spot up shooters in the league. Garrison Matthews is one of them. Being a competent spot up shooter is fine, but reducing a potential star player to a spot up shooter and literally refusing to put him in other roles is a negligence which is going to set him back. One of the things I've seen from Green already, perhaps the cockiest player coming out of the draft, has been a loss of confidence in his own handles on the court and ability to finish near the rim. He's done it so rarely that it's probably exactly where it was at the start of the season, which says a lot about how poorly this development year went.

A final point. Think of it this way: who has gotten more opportunities to bring the ball up this season and orchestrate the offense, Green or Tate? What about Green or Wood? Or how about Green or Gordon? How is it that literally every starter was given more opportunities than him? How does a coach and front office allow that to happen?

this really should be talked about more. It’s one of the most exciting things about him to me.

he’ll never live up to expectations if the offense doesn’t get to where it seems it might actually get to now. But even if it gets there… withe the defensive potential now… we’re talking about actual legit winning basketball potential.

which is also why I lean Chet if possible.

two way stars are the holy grail.

A lot of good players with potential, time will tell. Everyone is different. I'm seeing this as a possible comparison.

    Green - wade
    Cp3 - cade
    Mobley - bosh
    Barnes - ????

Jalen Green's improvements have been both steady and significant.

His scoring efficiency numbers is actually slightly worse with pre/post all-star splits, because in his last 25 games he is averaging 18/3/3 on TS 59%.

I think he'll be better with better team defense, I think when he does get out of position it's because he's trying to cover for others.

And if he can stop being asked to guard 4s and 5s that would be nice

It's looking more and more to me like the Rockets made the right choice with Green. Can't wait to see how he does in a few years.

That said, I wince every time I see a big alley-oop dunk by him. He's young now so it may not matter much, but it looks to me like there's a lot of pressure put on his knees whenever he lands.

To me playing off the ball means cutting, back screening etc not standing stationary in one place hoping the guy with the ball gets stuck and has to kick out .
More times than not he is a spot up shooter not doing things he does best which is use his athleticm to score points on cuts to the bucket, getting screened and flashing etc

You never win big with Silas unfortunately, just enough to feel secure.

He is a Play In coach at best.

People just go one on one with Chet rather getting blocked weak side.

    Been saying this all year.

People jut keep spouting narratives about him being a bad defender instead of actually paying attention.

Even during the whole Mathew’s should start over him nonsense, Mathew’s was and is a terrible one on defender.

Only in those particular games on that chart.

He’s actually averaging less than that due to Silas being a dumb ass.
