The problem is that most of his points -- and most of his possessions -- were him setup as a spot up shooter standing around in a corner. Turning Green into a spot up shooter instead of a dynamic guard that has greater ball control within the offense is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, failure of this season. Even last night, it was maddening to watch how many possessions he's a non-factor in. He's just parked in a corner standing around. We have too many offensive players that think to score first when they get the ball in our starting lineup. And that's a problem with roster construction. Tate gets the ball and he looks to score. Wood gets the ball and he looks to score. KPJ gets the ball and he looks to score. Gordon gets the ball and he looks to score. Most of these guys pass when they literally can't score, or, more rarely, when they are doubled or early in an offensive set (because they're running a motion that requires ball movement). Ironically, Green's possibly the only starter that looks to playmake for others. I would rather Green get fewer minutes but be substituted with Schroder as part of the backups and let Schroder start with KPJ, Gordon, Tate and Wood. At least with Sengun, Christopher, Matthews and Martin he'd get more looks, have the ball at the start of possessions, and be more active in possessions playing the two-man game with Sengun, Christopher, etc. If he plays, say, 32 mins instead of 34 or 36, but 20 of them are with the backups, I think that would be a better use of Green than what's been going on all season which has been him standing around in a corner waiting for a kickout to shoot a three or him coming to the top of the key to collect the ball, make a quick side to side move, and then passing the ball back to KPJ quickly.
i love how green was red hot in the 3rd quarter then his teammates froze him out for 7-8 possesions in a row. then silas froze him out in the 4th quarter. seriously bet the over on greens PPG the minute he isn't playing with 4 literal black holes. KPJ/Gordon/Tate/Wood are all ball stoppers.
I'm not even surprised at his shot-making any more. I'm just surprised at how well he's able to do given how little he is a part of the offense at times. And if he can score this well with essentially 3-and-a-half black holes, next year with Sengun and *insert future draft pick here* on the roster he'll be even more explosive of a scorer...and I guarantee he'll be working on his game over the summer, too.
I am a huge fan but today I felt he relied too much on the 3 ball. I hope he doesn't fall in love with that and give up the other parts of his game that make him so good
Look at where he’s set up on the offense. We literally force him to be a Kyle Korver and be a set up shooter when that’s not even his strength. He can’t even take advantage of his strengths (which is beating his defender on the drive to score or to kick out to his teammates) because our team is filled with black holes and force him to be 3-4th option on the offense.
Seriously one of the most frustrating things about this season. When he is hot, keep feeding him and for love of God don't sit him down. Ill give Silas a break bc I think him turning his ankle is what led him to sitting out this time but he is young, let him freaking play !!!
I am not. I like how he is embracing the 3pt shot more and more. Why? Well 3pts are more than 2 - but the bigger reason is, it will open up his drive that much more. If he is deadly from 3, players have to stay close - and then they have no chance defending his drive. So the opposing team needs to defend Green with at least two player (one being a help defender thats cheating). Problem is, Green is also deadly from midrange - and he is getting better at finding teammates when the defender cheats. The problem is more with him not being very invovled in the offense. He shouldn‘t just be a spot up shooter. He should be the focal point of the offense, with him touching the ball on most possessions, teammates setting up screens for him both when he has the ball and when he has not. That doesn‘t mean he should run point - or that other players shouldn‘t set up plays as well. Basically, what I am saying: our system sucks - and it sucks especially at involving our rookies.
Uh he was 6-11 from 3. When you’re over 50 percent from long range it’s probably a good idea to keep doing that. Nobody tells Steph Curry to stop making all those 3 point shots. This has always been a really weird critique but now we are well past the point where Green is relying on big nights from 3 to have big numbers. He’s consistently demonstrating 3 level scoring.
