I think most rookies are learning early in the season, and unless you have some veterans on the team running with you, pointing things out, you're just going to be running around with your head cut off on what to do, how to react, etc. Silas also said early in the season they weren't loading these guys up with expectations and they were basically giving Jalen more simplistic roles in the offense so they wouldn't overload him. As the season's gone on, they're giving him more of a load and responsibility. There are a few other rookies that have also had "sudden" changes in stats pre and post ASB (February 20th) (I'm just using that as a random date - no specific reason to select it). Maybe choosing a different date would arrive at different results or show something more. Anyway, some random stuff pre and post ASB : Jalen's TS% is up about 7.7%, percent of points coming from FT's has dropped by 12.5%, his FT% has dropped by 13.8%, he's attempting 3.6 more FG/game, from the looks of it, he's had a huge jump in the % of his FG being attempted in the 12-22 ft. range while also having a big jump in the FG% from that range, as well. He's scoring 5.78 ppg more while playing 3.64 mins/game. Sengun's TS% has fallen by 7.4%, percent of points coming from FT's has dropped by 7.2% Christopher's TS% has fallen by 5.9%, his 3PT% has dropped by 8% Cade Cunningham's TS% is up 3%, he's attempting 4.4 more FG/game, his 2PT FG% has come up, maybe due to taking more shots 5 ft. and under (layups/dunks?), but his 3 PT% has suffered a bit. He's scoring 6.57 ppg more while playing 3.92 min/game more. Cam Thomas' TS% has fallen by about 8%. Evan Mobley's TS% has been relatively unchanged - he's about 1.6% higher. Franz Wagner's TS% has also been relatively unchaned - he's about 1.5% lower. Jalen Suggs had a bad TS%, but it's gone down another 5.2% since the ASB. Jonathan Kuminga's TS% is up about 3.4%, he's playing 10 mins more per game, his FT% is up 17.9% Scottie Barnes' TS% has gone up 6.3%, he's been consistent across most other stats pre and post ASB Ziaire Williams' TS% has gone up 12.2%(!). His 3PT% is up 15.5%.
No doubt many factors involved. Sengun starting on second unit then getting some 1st team action (better defenders) Mobley 3-pt% fell off a cliff Rockets specifically: 1) No spacing: Green/Porter/Tate/Theis/Wood shot like crap from three while also force feeding/training Green-Porter PnR ball handling. [2 main newbie facilitators is a train wreck....esp with no spacing] Btw; Jalen Green attempted mid-range shots in that 1st week... but again no spacing was a buzz kill as there was no chance of rebounding a miss. 2) Then Silas reduced Green's role, imo, to allow Porter to figure things out. Mathews gets more burn time to add spacing. 3) Wood laid down his arms as his 3-pt shot plummeted after game 9 as a means of getting Theis benched, again imo. 3-pt% rose again after Theis was benched. 4) Porter started figuring things out at beginning of Feb or when he went Radio Silent on social media. 5) Green started getting the ball more. _____________ My perceived timeline with maybe #3 before #2. It's better that Green is producing now than later....hoorah. Go Rockets!!
is jalen green currently a better player than Jordan Clarkson? i dont watch rockets games however a few highlights of jalen lately looked impressive Clarksons scoring is also often very impressive however hes still just a role player...would Jordan Clarckson be able to develop into a star if given a greater role and featured more on certain teams?
Jordan Clarkson is 29 bro. If Jordan Clarkson was scoring like this at 19 and 20, yes he would be projected to be a superstar.
Imagine being so bitter and deluded that you would "not watch Rocket games" in some sort of protest and then have the audacity to blurt out ridiculous comps in passive aggressive humor!! LOLLL sometime all it takes is a little common sense no? SMH.
Green moved up to top 5 in the roy ladder. Writer was pointing out that green has the worst plus/minus as a detriment https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/who-has-the-worst-plus-minus-in-the-league Not that green is gonna win roy due to his horrible start initially, but is using this stat even viable in judging a rookie? Booby and some folks were using it to sht on green all season, what changed? When would +/- b fine to use to judge a player?
Yup it shouldn't matter. Pretty much the entire roster of the Pistons and Rockets are in the top(worst?) 20.
Idiotic of them to use it. Not a single rookie has a chance of making a dent in that +/- in place of Green. We were tanking this year no matter what.
Yup. Tyler Herro is a very skilled scorer and has a bright future but he just doesn't have the raw tools in athleticism and fluidity that Green has. Also im pretty sure Green is taller and longer.
i didnt even watched him this year.... he looked impressive few years back as well when i did... not sure about % because i mainly watched his highlights
I am happy to admit I was doubting early on. Dude looked highly unskilled offensively. Clearly something clicked or he was nervous or I don't know what, but this is a wide variety of scoring moves, many of which are very advanced. Really promising last stretch of the season, makes next season very exciting.
oh i see you are very bitter...thank you for the compliments because it must be because i destroyed your arguments so many times... and yes i dont watch rockets games and proud of it...
Melo and Westbrick have been throwing elbows at Jalen the entire game. I'm so glad he went after Melo and then calling him out during the post game interview. This type of killer mentality can't be taught. You either have it or you don't
Then what's the point of btching so much about how the Rockets utilize sengun if u can't even bother to watch the games
I was always a big fan due to the flashes he would constantly show and one thing that I have never heard used to describe Green was "lazy". I guess the question now is this; is he a really fast learner given a lot of his supposed "skills" and "fundamentals" issues or was he in fact as advertised and it just took a bit longer for the game to slow down for him mentally and physically? Of course, it can always be a combination of both. Regardless, the Jalen Green today is vastly superior to the one we saw in the first couple of months and that is awesome for us.
