Have been keeping an eye on this. It's comforting that he is on FIRE from mid range since ASB (which is where those possessions are going, cause the 3's are constant), but imo he's not been getting enough free throws. His % at the rim is still not good enough for an elite scorer, hopefully with added strength he'll get better here. A star leading scorer must be able to get/force a bucket from close to the basket in times of desperate need especially in the playoffs. I love his development from mid range and 3pt land, but I have a hunch he will go back to attacking the rim more often once he tries and feels the high variance in efficiency from jumpers vs the reliability of two points and maybe a foul at the basket. A lot of it is he is a rookie, the refs don't give him the benefit of the doubt at all.
Yeah, like I know he's light and relatively weak and all, but dude gets hammered going to the rim sometimes and it's just ignored. A good example would be on the Maverick Green's block, he was being pushed fouled the whole way--nothing. I think that's part of being a rookie though, as he adds strength and the refs respect him more, he'll get to the line a lot. It's hard to guard someone this fast and explosive without fouling.
6 assists to 1 turnover in 27 minutes. I don’t know guys. JG been looking spicy lately with the ball in his hands. He should continue to initiate more offense. His ability to get by his initial defender and warp defenses without over dribbling and wasting clock is too valuable. Turnovers be dammed. He’s gotta learn what works and what doesn’t. His gravity is evident. His dribble drive is already feared. Several of these assists he’s drawing 2 defenders and 35 second mark on the pass to Bruno he drew 2 defenders and the attention of a 3rd helper.
After watching the game properly, the only issue I had with this game was that he lost concentration on defense a couple times and he did not attack Powell enough. He's been unpacking his full tool kit with euro steps, mid rangers, post moves in mid range, etc. Just needs to refocus on his priorities and look at the big picture. This is a team with good perimeter defenders and mediocre interior defenders. Luka is a bad defender and Powell is not a great interior defender. That's what should have been the focus of his game plan. The way they were guarding him, it's really good he had the instinct to get 6 assists with 1 TO. A lot of defensive attention on him this game. Typical kind of game from a rookie and I'm sure he'll learn that lesson from film and bounce back. I feel another 30pt game coming soon.
Him getting 6AST and 1 TO when the defense is focusing on him is great for long term winning imo. It's exactly what he has to learn to make winning plays regardless of who or what type of defense he's playing against. If he keeps getting better, he will face more double teams and tough defenses, so it's good to learn this early instead of becoming someone to force bad shots instead of making the right play
It’s funny, because as Jalen Green is improving, the lineups he’s out there with and the way the team uses him gets stupider and stupider. It’s like he’s never in the game without KPJ and Wood, and he’s not seeing the floor in blowouts. It’s so stupid. He was the only starter playing hard and playing well against the Pelicans and he’s just glued to the bench the entire 4th. It’s frustrating.
Maybe, just maybe, Silas is trying to have green not get too confident and cocky with 15 games left heading into the offseason. If that’s his plan it makes sense a little bit. Green was arguably too cocky last year. We need Green in the gym every day this off-season desperately working on his game and body. If that happens next year Green will ascend to superstardom.
Theres no way thats it. Also he has been building confidence so why not keep feeding that confidence instead of constantly throwing up roadblocks. Its frustrating watching CC get complete carte blanche on the court. Shoot all the shots and play all the minutes. Thats how you play high level rookies especially on bad teams and ESPECIALLY when said rookie has been improving at an accelerated rate and maintaining
He is arguably the least cocky out of the entire starting five. He’s probably the only starter actively trying to play team ball sometimes, it seems like. Wood is an idiot, KPJ is either good or awful, Tate has limited vision and Mathews only looks for his own shot. That’s why I’d like see Green play more with players like Sengun, KJ and now Nix. Green is not going to ball hog, so let him play with players that also like moving the ball around. It seems simple, but I guess it’s not because it’s not happening.
Jalen Green is balling. Leading all rookies in scoring in the month of March despite being only 6th in minutes played per game.
Missed the game last night... Looks like coach thinks Green has learned everything he needs to learn in the NBA so he didn't play him after he realized Rockets weren't going to win. Good job
Observationally as Jalen's numbers have gone up, our margin seems to be getting worse - we are losing by more now than before - could be just that the players are not the same, but it does seems strange that we are getting blown out so much now. We do need to lose out though, I think. DD
When that Tokyo Drift Dunk by Green happened, the Rox were down by 3 with like 3 minutes and change to go in the 2nd qtr.
