It did but you would be surprised how minimal. I remember I told someone earlier that ROY is not important as it is basically an ASB award. https://www.nba.com/news/kia-rookie-ladder-march-9-2022-edition
Jalen Green has set aside such a huge budget for his PR team, this time they've obviously paid James Worthy - Jalen's coach in the Rising Stars game - and you can catch Worthy here spreading this propaganda about Jalen having a great attitude about working hard. Can't believe an NBA legend is so shamelessly plugging this PR fluff that obviously can't be true. I still find it SO ODD to question totally unprompted reports that your #2 pick seems to be an exceptionally hard worker. They discuss Sengun a little bit too. People are extremely fond of Sengun and Green, their games are so entertaining and effective.
to be fair: Cunningham is playing lights out right now, Mobley has been the front runner since the start of the season, Barnes is playing great and Giddy is doing some historic stuff. If you look at the whole season I would put Green 5th (and it’s not like Wagner would be far behind). this rookie class is playing great and so Greens play as of late is not enough to put him ahead of the others.
I don't believe that would include his latest performance since it was released the morning of the Lakers game. But ... A lot of the rookies have been picking up their game. I've casually compared numbers pre and post All-Star break and really, among the major rookies, the guys that stepped up from pre-All Star are probably Jalen, Scottie Barnes, and probably Franz Wagner. Both Cade's and Jalen's scoring have improved mainly because they're putting up more shots from what I can see. Jalen's TS% has improved 7% since the ASB, whereas Cade's has improved about 4%. Cade was pretty bad in that stat pre-ASB, while Jalen was bad, too, Jalen's showing more improvement in that regard. I was surprised to see Cade shoots more shots than any major rookie. Another interesting thing I noticed from looking at the numbers is that Jalen's scoring numbers are being done without much benefit from FT's. I think something like 20% of his points pre-ASB were from FT's whereas only about 7% post-ASB are. Lastly, Jalen's FT% has fallen off a cliff now that he's more involved in the offense and carrying more of the load. I think it's gone from something like 81% down to 65% after the ASB. Of course, post-ASB is only about 8 games and he's also hitting his 3's at a much better clip nowadays, so that affects a lot of these stats. And, as usual, anyone feel free to correct my blunders. lol.
Maybe it's just because we have 3 1st rounders actually playing this season but I have high hopes for this draft class in general. I love Wagner's game--he's so versatile on both ends of the court. I'm not a huge fan of him but Barnes looks to be a future All-Star. I think Giddey will be an elite point guard once he can find a consistent shot. This doesn't even go into our own rookies who I think will, at the very least, productive vets.
You're telling me Worthy coached him one game and it's already make him better than Silas for half a season?
Yeah, I generally only watch the Rockets, but would like to watch more of people like Barnes, Wagner, and Giddey. I don't know what Barnes is doing, but pre-ASB, his TS% was around 54%, but post-ASB, it's 65%. He's really stepped it up and probably doesn't get enough credit even though he's been around the top rookies all season. Cam Thomas, Chris Duarte, Alpi, and Herb Jones have all dropped off in that regard (TS%).
Judging rookies too early is a massive mistake. Cautiously optimistic about Green (still). He is our guy, so he is my guy!! At seasons start I didn't care about the first 20-30 games and was more interested in seeing his post all star break performance. I was hoping to see an Edwards-esque trajectory. He is STARTING to look like he is the goods!! Overall I think Cade is the ROY But Mobley Green Barnes probably have the most room to grow their games on what they have shown this year. It would be a massive shock if all of the top 4 picks end up strong NBA starters - probably happens frequently, but doesn't feel like it? Could end up being an extremely strong draft class.
Let me understand, the Mavericks starters played an average of 34 minutes (Doncic with 36 minutes) despite having the game won, and Silas leaves Green stuck on the bench? Amazing.
