If this boy steals CP3/Kawhi/KD's midrange game, he'll be the 3rd best player to ever play for this team, minimum. Edit: Add DeMar Derozan to that list, no idea he was shooting 49% from mid-range this year.
He is starting to create space between him and the defender while finishing at the rim too. He is going to get his shots blocked but I think now he expects to finish more than get blocked. More he scores, more he will get to the line as well
To be fair, Morey isn't against mid-range shots, statistically it is the worse shot only because most players that take it do not convert it at a high enough rate. This is why guys like Chris Paul were still taking them (albeit a bit lower than his other seasons). If Green is hitting mid range shots at above 50% (he's basically 60%+ as of late) rate, it's statistically a good shot to take.
I have only seen the highlights, but I think I counted 17 points in the 4th quarter and overtime. And he had the ball in his hands to initiate the offense during that span a lot. That’s what I wanted in Green. If that’s the player he is, I would still take him over Mobley and Cunningham. oh and he blocked LeBron so that’s something too…
Green scores 32 and wins the game on Kobe's home court at age 20 against Lebron James who played 45 minutes. Solid 20 games of average to excellent play from Jalen now. I don't think it qualifies as a streak anymore. He's not going back to being a 15ppg scorer. Apparently we have to make a million qualifications to say he can be as successful as Kobe. A 30ppg guy with excellent playoff defense is a rare kind of player, possibly the rarest. The list is not very long and full of champions. Think of players today who can average almost 30 ppg and play great defense. Rebounds, assists, steals and blocks pale in comparison to what overall good defense does to your +/- and your ability to impact wins. This is why Kobe was a winner without being a triple double machine, same with Kawhi and obviously Jordan who was a below average shooter, mediocre passer for his usage. Elite pure SG. For these guys, an elite mid range game is also a necessary bail-out shot. Green seems to be following this to a T. I'm practically sold on Jalen's offensive game, all it requires is repetition and polish. It will be hard to stop him from hitting 30ppg if he can keep the motivation to work hard off the court for years. He may develop into a better than average passer at the SG position, but I need to see that tested a bit more. I don't think he should ever be waiting for rebounds, he just needs to be the first player up and down the court leading our transition and disrupting theirs. Defense is what will determine his legacy in my opinion and I'm pleasantly surprised by his commitment on that end.
Loved seeing this. This is basically the same as the dream shake in terms of footwork, and the reason that wasn’t a travel either. Just a great move from jalen here.
"The key to a championship" was the key to our win. Absolutely TORCHED Melo in overtime. Got Calvin dancing! Hahaha "This team came of age today... Especially Jalen Green..."
One more thing, what an awesome starting line up. That's what I've been wanting, all 3&d players around Green and Sengun. Nice and spacious, we made them expend so much energy chasing us in the half court and transition. Offense looked great. They would benefit from some time to develop chemistry. Really want to see what Sengun and Green can develop on offense, while the group as a whole could conceivably play good defense. They've just barely ever used this lineup. All 5 of them are average or better defenders.
Let's not get all excited, dont forget Jalen Green can be the next Corey Brewer since they're both athletic guards with potential.
