Agree with the displeasure with the new tipping. Went there for the first time in like 10 years and was just kinda freaked out. I like to go to the counter myself and get my own A1,tobasco etc... I always enjoy myself at Papadeux and Papasitos...dunno why they decided to change this aspect up at Lubys. Top dishes for me 1)Chicken fried steak 2)Liver and Onions (Mom got me hooked as child) 3)T-Fried okra + Mac&Cheese Honorable mention: Yes I enjoy the occasional fish square.
not all of them have wait staffs. each luby's is different. the luby's in the area I grew up you have to pay before you eat. which I won't get into that. that one also serves soulfood on wed. I eat at the luby's next to where town and country used to be. they don't have the wait staff. the lubys on shepard and 11th that finally close, last attempt at getting business included a buffet. some have a breakfast buffet like the one on 290 and 34th. I know the luby's on fondren between westheimer and richmond now has wait staff. so does the one on 45 off the little york exit. so it really depends on which one you go to. okay, my wife and I eat at luby's about a couple times a month. one of the vegetable dishes not always on the menu is italian egg plant dish, I can't spell it but you know. so why is it so expensive at italian restaurants but just a side dish at luby's.
that's where i eat. kind of surreal because it feels like you're in no-man's land over there right now with the mall gone. it won't feel like that much longer, though. http://www.citycentrehouston.com/
I have been in the past year and it semed the same to me. My Lubys: Fried Fish Macaroni & Cheese Mashed Potatoes Roll Iced Tea
lol, as a fairly frequent customer of Luby's, this couldn't be further from the truth. never had a complaint about the food and the service isn't that annoying. the prices though, are through the ****ing roof, I'll agree with that though. ever since the pappas brothers took over, the place has gotten better in terms of quality, service, but price? yeah it's regular pappadeaux's like prices alright
Why would anyone ever, ever eat at Luby's? I'm not trying to be a food snob, but why would anyone spend money on this stuff? It's freaking cafeteria food, and there's no reason to eat cafeteria food if you don't have to. It's not healthy, it doesn't taste good, and now, apparently, the food isn't even warm. Go to Quiznos, get a sandwich or something...
Hey! That's my exact meal, too! I love their fried fish. I've noticed a change with the wait staff and increasing prices, but I haven't noticed a lick of difference in meal quality or "hotness". I think some of you are going a little overboard here. With the new service, I get my iced tea refills (and anything else I need) now much faster than I did with the "old lady pushing a cart". That's not worth an extra $1? Besides, maybe the new "constant care" service wasn't implemented in response to you, the spry whipper-snapper, but for the old people, who make up like 85% of their clientele. Ever think about that?
I've been eating the fried fish and macaroni and cheese for about 20 years now, as far back as I can remember. The Luby's on 1960 and Veterans Memorial used to be all you can eat. They just changed it a few months ago and it pissed me off.
Thats awesome news! We drive by what used to Town in Country Mall about once a week when taking the back roads to Papasitos. West Houston just keeps getting better and better. I love it.
my meal as a kid was the fish, they must put crack in it, mashed potatos with brown gravy, green beans. since the prices are skyrocketing, I've tried to eat the luann. liver and onions, or rost beaf. cabbage, and the eggplant if they have it that day. their chicken fried chicken is really good too, but you can't get it on the luann.
If any of you guys think Luby's food is bad, good thing you never went to Piccadilly's Cafeteria when it was still open. It was cheaper than Luby's but the food wasn't very good. What used to be awesome was the Wyatt's Cafeteria at W. Bellfort & S. Post Oak. It was a very sad day when it closed. VERY VERY cheap prices and great food. There was another Wyatt's (in Humble?) I went to one time that was awful. When I left, I told the people there they should get someone from the W. Bellfort location to come out and train them.
i eat at lubys at least once a week. those "waiters" started popping up a couple years ago at certain locations, but not at all of them. however, i now see them at every lubys i go to. i waited tables for years, but i refuse to tip if im getting my own food. i would tip if i went straight to my table and they took my order and brought me my food, but all they do is bring you a straw. im not dropping a buck for that. and i have had cold food a couple times recently since they switched to plates. not good. i dont mind the price. its good food (imo) and really only a couple bucks more than your average fast food meal. but i dont like waiters or cold food. ive been eating there my whole life so i hate to cut them out, but im getting irritated with their direction.
I think there was a picadilly's Northline. I never ate at Wyatt's but I remember it. There is a cafeteria more expensive than Luby's, Cleabourne's in West University.
