This deal with ANTA is probably worth more than his NBA contract

Is ANTA a manufacturer of women's underwear?

I am glad that the Rockets drafted Parsons and that he is consistently improving his overall game. I wouldn't be surprised if one day he becomes an All-Star.

Parsons is probably my favorite Rocket right now. I'm glad he's making more money. He's gonna get paid regardless though.

Les is a passive investor. There is no way to prove this. Especially as Anta has sponsored other NBA players outside of the Rockets.

These arguments are partially correct, and aimed to minimize the impact of Lin.

The reality is, the Rockets wouldn't be a big draw on Chinese TV markets without Yao playing. People watched the Rockets because Yao played.

Let's say all 82 regular season games were televised on China TV when Yao played. After he retired, Rockets probably still get a higher share of the broadcasts because of the familiarity. But for how long? One year? Two years? Three years? All of the Rockets players Yao played with have moved on to other teams, with the exception of AB who returned this year. There is no particular reason to broadcast an exceedingly high amount of Rockets games.

But with Lin, there is renewed interest. Even if he's not Yao Ming, and China doesn't broadcast 82 games, it is higher than it would be otherwise if the PGs on the Rockets were Beverley, AB and Jose Calderon.

In case you haven't noticed, not many Rockets players have received shoe deals since Yao retired. The likes of ANTA, PEAK have branched out and signed other either up and coming NBA players or veteran players that are no longer big draws.

Yao is the pre-dominant reason for Chinese fans' interest in the Rockets. Lin is a player that they have interest in, and this interest keeps their Rockets in their attention.

    No it's 100% correct.

There is no minimize the impact of Lin, it's just Lin fans minimizing the FACTS OF ROCKETS HISTORY.

Didn't Battier get 5M a year. Parsons has a big following in China.

I bet his shoe deal is more than his NBA contract. People in China pay attention to two teams, the Lakers and Rockets. Obviously the avid fans there pay attention to more, but even the laypeople there are familiar with the top, say, 6-7 players on the Rockets. They know Harden and Howard. They know Parsons and Beverley too. And obviously they are well familiar with Brooks.

My references are Chinese medical students with whom I stayed when I was there last year.

Doubt he would have had the deal if he was on another team and playing well. Parsons carefully cultivated his image with the Lin bromance.

Battier signed for $3M over 4 years in 2006.

I haven't seen any other public information on his shoe deals in terms of contract size.

I doubt Battier's current deal is that large since Peak just signed Tony Parker for $4M per year, and Battier's no Tony Parker.

No offense, but saying that "the laypeople" in China know the top 6-7 Rockets is way, way, off. 1) A couple/few medical students do not equal the Chinese common man. 2) Not even "the laypeople" in America know 6-7 Rockets. You're saying if you ask a random pedestrian to name some Rockets he/she will know 6-7? If you're saying the average NBA fan knows 6-7, OK, possibly. I did live in China for nine years, by the way.

Parsons got the Chinese shoe deal because he plays with Howard and harden who are huge in china excpecially Howard. These NBA superstars have all made there yearly summer trips to china since Yao entered the league and bridged the gap. I hate to break it to you but it really has nothing to do with Lin and more with the rockets being a high profile team with 2 top 10 players. Don't forget that since we got Howard, Yao Ming the most famous Chinese celebrity/athlete ever has been endorsing and around the rockets a lot more as of late, hence the real renewed interest in the Houston rockets.

Jermey Lin is not even Chinese he's American and his parents are Taiwanese decent. Jeez these lofs don't even know what their talking about lol.

Casspi is the next one getting paid :)

Endorsement deals in China are worth $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Jeremy said in his testimony that he has more money than he ever imagine.

    You have no idea.

Even in Philippines (which is not even Chinese) ...

    http://www.teampilipinas.info/2013/10/popular-rockets-guard-jeremy-lin.html

Just scroll down and see who is holding the ball in the center in a team photo, and who's standing next to who.

Yes, Dwight is big in China. Harden is so-so. Jeremy Lin has more interest due to race (note I didn't say nationality).

So if even in Philippines which is even a crazier basketball country and not Chinese Jeremy Lin is in the middle of a team photo shoot ...

And let's go back to business 101.

You're only going to give shoe contracts if you actually see these players wear the shoes. You see shoes when you play. You see games when they're televised. Lin helps with ratings with now Yao 3 years retired.

    You have no idea.

Call me a skeptic, but am I the only one worried about how these "new" shoes may affect his performance?

Maybe I am just overthinking it.

You can be a child and know that Yao Ming only played for one team, the Rockets and he got his fame in the NBA by playing for the Rockets.

not old, or young, just REAL
