I doubt babies, toddlers, old grandmas, grandpas, and a whole crap of people who just dont care about basketball can all be fans. I guess you did say potential but to say 100% of a population will be fans is quite an exageration. You would be surprised on how many people havent even heard of the names lin, parsons, harden, dwight. Heck 80% of the people i work with probably dont know these guys and some are sports fans just not basketball.

The first thing you should do when you see data like this is check the source. The data comes from a plethora of sources many of which are "self reported" is it a coincidence that the self-reported sources are correlated with size? Finally, the measurement method varies by source so you can't compare across them.
