It's ridiculous how teams are still running to overpay players, just to try to get there best player to stay.

I just don't see nene+Lopez combo working all that well. Neither of them seem to space the floor so it's going to be crowded in the paint. Am I wrong? I haven't seen too much of either of them.

[rQUOTEr]The New Jersey Nets are preparing to offer a four-year, $60 million-$65 million contract to free-agent center Nene, aggressively pushing to steal him away from the Denver Nuggets, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Nets general manager Billy King was expected to present the offer to Nene’s agent Dan Fegan on Friday.

The Nuggets can offer Nene a fifth year on his contract and had moved into the lead over recent days to retain him. The Indiana Pacers had bid aggressively, and Houston planned to make a stronger charge with increased salary-cap space before the NBA killed its three-team deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets.

Nene has been engaged in negotiations with Denver and Indiana for several days, but the Nets had been waiting back to gauge the market. Once free-agent center Tyson Chandler found a deal with the New York Knicks, the Nets decided to become more aggressive in their pursuit of Nene.[/rQUOTEr]

65 Million? Thats 16.25 million a year? This is seriously getting out of hand. Nene is nowhere near being a superstar. I thought the Knicks overpayed Amare, but compared to this he is a real bargain.

10 million is what he is worth - 12 million what I`d be willing to overpay him, since we are no big market and have no real selling points. But 16.25? Have fun in New Jersey...

This league is getting ridicoulus. At the end we will have some handcuffed teams with overpayed stars, 2-3 superteams and a lot of mediocre teams. Why did we have the new CBA again?

I don't think we ever had a chance at Nene, personally. I had a feeling that he'd cost way too much then he deserves or what we'd be willing to pay.

Nene with Howard and Williams is a solid team though.

Of course, now we have the age old probelm of the center. No Chuck, No Chandler, No Nene.

Do we cross our fingers and put Thabeet out there? If Thabeet's playing Center, do we have a backup for him? I don't want Dalembart, but do we sign him anyway?

Nene is worth $12 mil if you are a sensible GM, $14 mil if you are desperate for a center (like we are), $15-$18 mil if you are Scott Layden.

Nene's signing depended on the Gasol trade. It would've freed up enough room to match NJ's deal. But as it currently stands, we have no chance.

So Nets signing Nene means no more Howard for them?
