You really should spread more reputation around, because you last repped me for another racist comment three weeks ago!

For you folks who live in Houston, the hill in front of the amphitheater at Hermann Park is a winner for sliding on the snow. We had a good snow in the early '70's, when I lived a couple of blocks from there, and it was a gas. Someone even brought a sled!

Woo, its actually colder at the 850mb level than the forecast model (NAM) was indicating at this time. That means they've changed the forecast for changeover from rain to snow to earlier in the day. They are now saying late morning. Check it out. If the moisture is there this could really be something tomorrow. Hope no one has to be on the road tomorrow afternoon.

    AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
    NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
    1004 PM CST THU DEC 3 2009

    .DISCUSSION...
PER SFC ANALYSIS THE SECONDARY SURGE OF COLDER AIR NOW APPEARS TO
BE SPREADING INTO SE TX. VERY DRY/COLD AIRMASS LOCATED TO OUR
NORTH WITH SFC DEWPOINTS DOWN TO THE LOWER TEENS ACROSS OKLAHOMA
AND WEST TX AND SINGLE DIGITS IN THE PANHANDLE. 850 MB ANALYSIS
SHOWS THAT THE ZERO DEGREE ISOTHERM IS ALREADY LINED UP ALONG I-10...
WITH LCH SHOWING A TEMP OF ZERO AND DRT SHOWING A TEMP OF -2.
THIS IS ACTUALLY A BIT COLDER THAN THE 00Z NAM INITIALIZED.

BASED ON THE 18Z GFS AND 00Z NAM RUNS HAVE DECIDED TO UPGRADE THE
WINTER STORM WATCH TO A WARNING FOR THE SOUTHEAST ZONES...INCLUDING
THE HOUSTON METRO AREA. THE WARNING WILL RUN FROM 16Z FRIDAY TO
02Z SATURDAY. THIS AREA IS WHERE WE HAVE THE HIGHEST CONFIDENCE IN
ACCUMULATIONS EXCEEDING 2 INCHES (IN PARTICULAR POLK...SAN JAC...
LIBERTY...HARRIS). HAVE ADDED THE ADJACENT COASTAL ZONES WITH THE
THINKING THAT THE NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE COASTAL ZONES COULD
REACH CRITERIA AS WELL. WILL STILL BE CALLING FOR 1 TO 3 INCHES
IN THE WARNING...WITH ISOLATED 4 POSSIBLE. THE COMBINATION OF THE
LOW QPFS BEING FORECAST...THE SHORT DURATION OF THE EVENT...AND
THE WARM GROUND CONDITIONS PRECLUDE US FROM GOING HIGHER AT THIS
POINT. FOR THE NRN/WRN ZONES QPFS ARE FORECAST TO BE LIGHTER SO
WILL STICK WITH AN ADVISORY FOR 1 TO POSSIBLY 2 INCH ACCUMULATIONS.
THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN WRN ZONES EARLY MORNING...SPREAD
INTO HOUSTON LATE MORNING/MIDDAY AND ALONG THE COAST RAIN WILL
CHANGE TO SNOW LATE AFTN. THE PRECIP SHOULD QUICKLY COME TO AN END
EASTERN ZONES BY 02Z. RAPID CLEARING IS EXPECTED LATE FRI EVENING.
THIS COMBINED WITH THE EXPECTATION OF SNOW COVER WILL ALLOW TEMPS
TO PLUMMET OVER THE AREA WITH ICE DEVELOPING ON BRIDGES/OVERPASSES.
HAVE LOWERED TEMPS FRI AFTN ONCE PRECIP STARTS (WHERE THEY COULD
TOUCH FREEZING IN A FEW SPOTS)...AND LOWERED MINS FRI NIGHT.
EXPECTING ALL INLAND AREAS TO REMAIN BELOW FREEZING FOR 12 TO 18
HOURS. THIS IS A VERY SEVERE FREEZE FOR THE FIRST FREEZE OF THE
SEASON. HAVE ALSO LOWERED MINS ON THE IMMEDIATE COAST TO 30 TO 32
DEGREES...AND WILL CALL FOR 3-6 HOURS BELOW FREEZING THERE. WINDS
WILL BE QUITE GUSTY...SO WIND CHILLS IN THE 20S WILL BE COMMON FRI
AFTN/FRI NIGHT. ALL OF THIS WILL BE COVERED IN THE PRODUCTS.

Rain, snow mix in Missouri City, looks like the moisture is going to be there for this to be a big snow event.
