Yes, it did go platinum. Platinum = selling over 1,000,000 copies and "Ultimate Victory" sold ~ 2 million. Total sales were lower than "Sound of Revenge" and in many people's eyes, considered a commercial flop.

I heard him for a little bit on 97.9 the Box yesterday on my way back to school. Chamillionaire is a very outspoken dude (can be his downfall too.. sometimes he talks too much its annoying)... is not afraid to give his opinion about anything. Talked about Houston falling off since 2005 (which it has tremendously) and is pissed off at all the other rappers for slacking off and letting bad rappers from other cities make all the money. His original Mixtape Messiah 4 was supposed to be controversial and "light a fire" under all the Houston rappers' asses to motivate them to start working harder to produce good music, but decided to tone it down after Pimp C's death. Also spoke out on the Mike Jones-Trae scuffle and said everyone hates on Mike Jones cause he brags too much lol.

Played a few tracks from MM4 and I've liked what I heard so far. The "My Life" track w/ Slim Thug and Trae was nice. Hope it comes in the mail today...

Cham has been doing mixtapes way before Wayne.

I don't think hes making fun of people in general that don't like his music, but the people that take it to the extreme to hate on Cham. We've seen it here with T-Mac and sometimes Yao. He's talking about the internet nerd that spends all his time hating on Cham's music just for the fact of putting him down. The guy that attacks Cham for everything from his songs, to his clothes and all the way to his daily decisions on life.

I understand all of that, but the dude is famous. People are going to talk about him. I just think that this is a dumb way to speak out.

Whoever said talking too much could be Cham's downfall is right. I really don't like his politics. He is very hypocritical. He won't cuss, but he says stuff like "I'm gonna f you up" and "ish". What's the point? Why refer to a cuss word, but not say it? I kinda feel gay for listening to it when he says that. Right after he makes it a point to not cuss, he starts talking about his pistol at his hip or saying stuff like "We be comin' like dicks no homo." So saying an overused curse is bad but gay bashing and killing people is okay?

He talks about not doing drugs or drinking and has spoken out after Pimp C's death about how stupid drank is. Then the song 2mph on his new mixtape has a chorus that talks about nothing but lean because Bun B and Paul Wall are on the track. It's like he tries to suck up to other rappers and doesn't stand up for what he apparently believes in.

I think it is impossible to affiliate yourself with a bunch of self-proclaimed gangsters and then speak out against the exact things they are doing. I would understand if he didn't mention the stuff, or didn't cuss because it is a waste of words, but to verbalize it then have the guy next to you doing the same thing your against is very hypocritical.

All that being said, I am a huge Chamillionaire fan. I am glad that he has become a major representative of the Houston rap scene nationally. No one works harder and continually puts out good music, whether I like his message or not.

Cham and Paul had an "underground" track out, Diamonds Exposed. Dunno exactly when it came out, but had it playin for a couple weeks in my deck. Nothing special, though, like the old days.

    mlwoo,

I think you're getting Cham's "message" a little wrong. He's not a saint. He isn't the cleanest rapper, he isn't the most intelligent either. I think he, like alot of other rappers and me, just wants more variety and wants people to say something real in their music. Even though UGK had alot of explicit lyrics and talked about drugs, they were real and they were tellin life stories.

Haven't you ever had a smoker/drinker tell you how terrible it was for you? Same thing here. He's not trying to say he's perfect but more trying to make it clear that he isn't.

    ya underdig?

Personally, I just think he's all about making money. He's a smart guy and he knows that different messages and themes attract different markets. He calls himself Chamillionaire bc he prides on the way he can change his style (singing, rapping, imitating rappers)... but I guess that applies to his "politics" too.

You got me. But he bleeped out Lil wayne saying B****.

    pmac,

I underdig what you are saying friend. I never said his lyrics were not good or didn't mean something. I know he is not a saint. He is just very hypocritical sometimes. I think he has Tracy Mcgrady syndrome in that he talks wayy too much for his own good.

The dude is very talented in what he does. The entire MM4 is all flows from start to finish and he doesn't say the same thing over and over.

I would like to hear a Mike Jones mixtape. He would have a list of ten things he could say and would just pick them at random for a whole song. The list of lines would feature:

    "Candy load on 84s"
    "Ice Age holdin it down"
"Ice age and Rap A Lot holdin it down"
"You know I'm rich I talk alotta sh-t"
"I'm big dippin and syrup sippin"
"back then hoes didn't want me now I'm hot hoes all on me" x8
    "diamonds shining in my grill"
"they used to love to diss me now they want to hug and kiss me"

Along with everyone's favorite, the immortal "Who?! MIKE JONES!" x 8

You have got to be kidding me. Ok, hating rap is one thing but how can you say one of if not the best hip hop artist is overrated. In honor of Pac, i'm going home and slamming my blender against the wall.

If he was all about making money, wouldn't he have sold his first 3 mixtapes instead of having them on his website for his friends to download for free. I feel so bad for him because Ultimate Victory came out like a month or so after 50/Kanye's beef and their albums but imo completely destroyed both of them. I don't think Ultimate Victory was a letdown by any means compared to Sound of Revenge, maybe not as popular songs as Ridin Dirty or Turn It Up but the overall quality of the album I thought was really good. Rappers like Cham and Lupe live in the limelight of a lot of guys who become famous using autotune and repeating one line throughout the song though they are 2 of the top artists right now. For this matter, Lupe's most likely retiring after one more album due out next year because he's just not making enough money which will be a shame.

Who said I ever compared the two? Why don't you read and comprehend what I initially wrote and then pass judgement. I'm not even a huge Weezy fan for that matter.

Lupe isn't retiring because he isn't making money. His albums are selling they're just not selling as high as Kanye's TI's or Lil Wayne's because these guys have become so commercial now. I think I read somewhere that he's retiring because he's been doing this since I believe 17 and he wants to move on to other things and have other rappers have their go at it and make a name for themselves, not because he isn't making money.

Thats just part of the chorus and it was a sample. If you listen to the lyrics, the only artist that talks about drank is Paul Wall. Like it or not, drank has been a major part of the Houston rap scene from day one. Although he didn't talk about sipping, he was able to pay homage to the scene with that little sample.

I agree with everything you say. I think you are missing my point.

I'm not saying I want Houston to stop singing about drank. I like my ghetto drank music. I love sippin' on some syrup and bangin my screw.

My point was Chamillionaire is preachy. If you are going to be as preachy as he is, then you should probably stay off those kinds of tracks or stop being preachy. I don't care if it's not your track.
