Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff considers homosexuality to be immoral

Doesn't the Bible say not to work on Sundays? I don't agree with this fascist mindset that says I have to tolerate people who work on Sundays.

 

That's fine, but those pastors CERTAINLY would not be considered mainstream or even a significant minority within Christianity. You have to recognize that.

And I am saying that there are a hell of a lot more religious people who think it is immoral. Also, why not say people are wrong when they say homosexuality is immoral?

 

I believe they are wrong to say that, but I am not all knowing. I am in no way qualified to tell someone else their understanding of the bible is 100% wrong. Even if I did, what good would it do?

I think it is better to show acceptance, compassion, and all of that, rather than aruge in words that won't change a person's mind.

 

Homosexual sex acts are wrong.

I am assuming that you would like us to take all the verses on face value, then, not just the ones that happen to reinforce contemporary fears and prejudices. That being said, I would love to get your thoughts on Deuteronomy 21:18-21 or Exodus 21: 20. Or Deuteronomy 22: 28-29.

Not to pick on it too much - poor Deuteronomy is like the Biblical equivalent of the 82-83 Rockets.

 

It's just my opinion and I don't hate homosexuals.

I appreciate your honesty, honestly, I am not trying to be disrespectful or persecute you on this point - i am actually trying to understand.

Someone addressed a point I made in a previous thread on this, and I did not totally understand the response - but basically why some bible verses seem to be eligible for "trump card" status, while others - the ones which seem clearly murderous, slave-owner-ish, geoncide-ish, rape-ish, and otherwise bizarre (yet equally clear and directive) - are ignored (Deuteronomy verses above, etc.)

To me, this goes beyond homosexuality, and gets to the core of literal translation of the Bible. Are all Bible verses created equal? If not, why?

hester, i'm not surprised but i'm sorry to see you take such a hard-lined, close-minded stance on homosexuality.

 

my view on homosexuality-

the act is wrong... as is lying, bearing false witness, gossip, disrespecting your elders, premarital sex, etc...recognization of it as a sin clearly stated in the Bible is all that I'm interested in. The rest is up to the individual. From my point of view, I lied yesterday, therefore I had sex with another man. Sin is sin.

it'll probably happen eventually in our lifetime. God won't recognize it, but the gov't will, and that should be good enough for those homosexuals who do.
