Chad Johnson's not a legit NFL WR, let alone #2 WR. He's garbage. You're wasting valuable resources and roster spots on him, IMO. And that he comes with an oversized ego that now tries to fill the void of of his eroded talent makes him most unappealing. While I'm 100% on board with your opinion (upgrading our WR corps, stretching the field, making it easier for Schaub, etc)... I see the "makes Andre Johnson more effective" line a lot, in regards to a WR2, and it rings pretty hollow for me. AJ just posted 112/1,598; the former the second-most of his career, the later a career best. He ranked 4th and 2nd, respectively, in the NFL. I think people need to be more realistic about Andre Johnson. They could line you and me up and if he's healthy, dude's gonna catch 100+ with 1,500 yards. He's at least been on pace for it every single year since 2007 (except 2011, which was a lost season). He doesn't need a "legit WR2" to be more effective because he's pretty much maxing out as is.
He might be maxing out as it is...but the offense definitely is not. A legit #2 would bring AJ's numbers down to maybe 80 catches for 1200 yards...but our red zone offense would be much more improved. We suck in the red zone and that's purely because the defense tightens up against AJ and all of a sudden, we have no other reliable wideouts that can get the job done. The Texans need a WR2 very badly...its the only way we can get over the hump of hitting the red zone and stalling. (Assuming we have the same OLine and struggle in the run department again).
With SFJ all healthy, they ranked 5th in RZ TD% in 2010 and 7th in 2012 through the first 12 games. Before Schaub's injury in 2011, they were 18th - but that was without AJ for 6.5 games. Again, this is a perfectly functional offense as is - well, assuming they can adequately replace Walter and Casey and everyone stays healthy. That's not to say they don't need to upgrade because they do. But not upgrading shouldn't be looked upon as a death sentence.
