I don't see the Texans signing Chad Johnson. He is old and has a history of not learning the playbook. What's to like?
Unless the dude walk in the lockerroom and start slapping people around . . . I think that the locker room would be ok. I'm no saying sign him . . .but to me . . it is all about skills he has them . . or he does not . . . . Rocket River
I love the offseason.... It's like everyone, collectively, suffers from short-term meory loss. The Texans ranked 11th last year in total passing yards despite finishing 18th in pass attempts. Their offense was 7th overall and they finished 8th in scoring. They won 13 games. I certainly think they need to upgrade/solidify some positions - but "desperate?" As long as Schaub, Foster, Johnson, Daniels, Brown and Myers are healthy, this is not a "desperate" offense. And as such, there's no reason to even entertain the thought of entertaining the thought of Chad Johnson. He's was, is, always will be a bum.
AJ said he would like him on the texans. Out of respect to AJ who has never played with a legit # 2 option I would bring him in and see if he has something left.
Ya is there any validity to this? I don't think they would look at him anyways, but has he been on the record saying he wants to come here?
Chad Johnson is not going to solve our problems, but let's not ignore that our offense was maddeningly inconsistent and many times failed to make big plays when needed over the second half of the season. I think their weaknesses were covered up in large part early in the season because the defense was forcing turnovers like crazy and the offense was put in good position with comfortable leads, and that all really disappeared after the Chicago game. I was encouraged by Posey at the end of the season, so as long as he's healthy enough to get back early in the season I'm fine with not signing a true #2 WR. I think we could improve the offense a lot with a good blocking FB and a TE2 that is a good blocker and can still make plays in the pass game (like Dreessen did).
Schaub is and will continue to be a concern until he plays a meaningful game. And they certainly need to upgrade a few positions and solidify others. But even if they don't make a single move... they're not a "disaster." Good enough to win more than 9+ and a wildcard game at home.
That depends. Having a legit WR2 changes a lot - it makes Andre Johnson more effective; it makes the running game more effective; it makes Schaub's life much easier by stretching the defense; etc. The bigger question is whether Chad Johnson has anything left and is a legit WR2 at this point.
