Actually, we would have two boneheads, because this would guarantee Bonzi's return. Artest would "kill" Bonzi if he doesn't return. The Bulls had Jordan to keep Rodman in line, at least for a while. The Rockets do not have a comparable strong personality guy to keep Artest in line. TMac and Yao are too nice. Maybe we could hire Sura as an assistant coach to babysit him, after Sactown cuts him. Or bring back Mr. Mean.
The trade mentioned is an obvious talent mismatch in our favor, but - Artest is crazy. I don't think he's as good a player, but I'd rather see the Rockets exhaust the Rashard Lewis options before turning to Artest.
I sometimes wonder what all these guys who are having hot flashes over Artest will have to say when he wigs out during a game and has to be hauled off in restraints? Whoops? My Bad? Wow, I really didn't see that coming? Who would have forseen this happening?
If this rumor is legit, I would agree with you doublehh03. I wouldn't be surprised if they then dangled Battier looking for a legitimate four (rather than Rashard Lewis) if they got Artest for a price like that.
Draft notes and rumorsposted: Friday, June 8, 2007 | Feedback | Print Entry filed under: Insider NBA Here are a few trade rumors along with updates from the NBA workout scene: • One possible destination for Ron Artest this summer? Houston, to be reunited with his former coach Rick Adelman. I'm told the Rockets have been quietly putting out feelers about Artest, and the price might be right. I hear it would cost the Rockets Bob Sura (he has only $1 million in salary protection next year), Kirk Snyder, Vasilis Spanoulis and this year's first-round draft pick. With Artest entering a player option year on his contract in the summer of 2008, it may be time to take the risk. • The Celtics' Danny Ainge traveled to Los Angeles on Wednesday to take a look at Yi Jianlian in a private workout. Yi worked out for nearly two hours in a gym by himself and then spent several hours with Ainge. The same drill was repeated on Thursday with the Atlanta Hawks GM Billy Knight. On Saturday the Bulls will get a look at Yi. The feedback from the workouts has been positive. Yi looks great in that environment. The question is whether he has the toughness to play that way when you put nine other players on the floor. Next, Yi's camp will sit back and gauge feedback. If none of those teams commit to drafting Yi, then Sacramento likely will be the next team to visit. If Boston is passing on Yi, I think that means we might see a trade coming. There's talk that the Suns -- to slash payroll -- might be willing to take the No. 5 pick, Theo Ratliff's expiring contract and Delonte West for Shawn Marion. That would make Paul Pierce happy. With the No. 5 pick, the Suns could replace Marion with Yi, Jeff Green or Al Thornton. In the Suns' system, all three of those guys could play the four. Another dark horse in the Yi sweepstakes might be Portland, which is trying to get another top 10 draft pick. As I've mentioned before, the Bulls seem like a possible trading partner, with Zach Randolph involved. Can you imagine the huge front line of Greg Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge and Yi? Wow. • There have been questions about Big Baby Glen Davis' weight. He's worked out in Philly and New Jersey, and team sources say he came in just a hair under 300 pounds (298, to be exact). But he has a couple of factors in his favor. One, he measured out at a decent height. Some predicted he could be as short as 6-6 in socks. Instead he measured 6-7¾ in socks, meaning he's 6-9 in shoes. Second, Davis also recorded a body fat of less than 12 percent. That's actually not too bad, given his size. Said one NBA scout, "He is not fat like Rodney Rogers or Tractor Traylor, but just big. He should have played D-line on the football team."
If we land Artest, our defense might actually get better, even under Adleman...not to mention our obvious offensive improvement
i like Artest on our team! Lewis is not a strong enough player under the basket to play as our POWER Forward. I would rather go small with Elton Brand, even though I would prefer height in this position. If we got Brand we would have to move Battier as part of such a trade. Then all we need isa Playmaker starting Point Guard. Ridnour T.Mac Artest Brand Yao Ming MAKE WAY SAN ANTONIO HERE WE COME.............
How can you expect this lineup to work Clutch. Don't you expect Artest or Lewis will start complaining about not getting enough shots with Yao amd Tmac taking most of them.
Artest is a much better fit for Rox than Lewis. He is good at both ends. And he is tough-minded. We need some passion in the field. Hopefully they don't take V-span away. It would hurt if he finally decides to stay with us and find himself traded. Either Battier(I really want to keep him) or Howard can be sent to Kings. But is this really not a rumor?
I don't see what's wrong with having Battier, Artest, and McGrady all on the team. They can all play together, and match up depending on the opponent. Artest is heavier than many of the 4s in the league. Battier gets overpowered by some 4s, but if the opponent try to go small, he can check the combo-forwards. Besides, you can alway use some depth, both for rotation and injury insurance reasons. Battier spent a year or as Memphis' sixth man, I believe. If this trade goes through, I think the Rockets might just complete the line up by either signing Steve Francis and keeping Juwan and Chuck at the 4 or use part of the MLE to get some sort of 4 man (Mikki Moore, Corliss Williamson) and trading Juwan for Mike James. There is plenty you can do since McGrady, Battier, Artest are all very versatile.
I'd do this trade every day of the week and twice on Sunday. We desperately need some fire in this team. Artest brings that fire... with a side of headache-inducing dementia, of course. Still, "damaged goods" is all we can expect to get at this point with what little assets we have, and, well, Artest is at the top of the "damaged goods" list.
Battier + Howard for AK-47 + UT's 1st round pick. PG: Alston / 1st round pick SG: McGrady / Head SF: Artest / Novak PF: Kirilenko / Hayes C: Yao / Mutumbo or Big Jake Can you imagine trying to score inside against Artest, AK, and Yao?
we alrady finished upgrading our undersized guards last year, now we're going to the same habit, undersize forwards, that gives us two with Artet and Hayes..
